Just saw this on the front page of the site:

Quote:
After careful consideration, we have decided to shutdown Blueyoyo.com.

Blueyoyo.com has had financial problems and unable to support its users.

Our team worked very hard to try and build a service that would truly help expats. This was our primary focus. We wanted to be able to help our users. Unfortunately, the service didn't work out like we had hoped.
I want to say "Thank You" to all that gave Blueyoyo.com a support. Again we sincerely appreciate your support.

Blueyoyo.com will have lost a small fortune when it's all said and done, and it was by choice.
On behalf of the entire Blueyoyo.com team, we wish the best of luck to everyone.

The website will go offline at the end of November 31st 2008.

If you have any questions or would like a refund for the month of November please email: [email protected] with your name, id, and KOREAN bank account number.

Sincerely,
Blueyoyo

It will be missed.

This absolutely sucks. I don't have the time or the patience to download movies and tv shows from torrents. Songs/albums no problem, but losing blueyoyo hurts for instant gratification folks like myself.

As I dodder onward into old age, I find the download speeds on the public sites no great deterrent. I did have a blueyoyo membership for a little while though, and WOW it was fast.
Too bad it didn't work out for them. They had a pretty good community of film buffs and I found some pretty obscure stuff there.

It's one thing to download illegal stuff, and for the rippers to put it on the internet for free download.

It's a step beyond to charge for illegal stuff. I know movie execs can't do anything about it being in Asia and all, but I'm surprised movie execs don't send thugs out to put a beating on someone who's actually charging for content they stole.

And they obviously raked in loads of cash didn't they? Rolling Eyes
They really didn't charge very much and if you were a regular uploader, they didn't charge you to download at all. And for what it's worth, they really did foster a good file-sharing and discussion community for expats in Korea.

I love the YoYo...come home Friday night and just chill out to my favorite shows in the matter of minutes...been using it for over 4 years. Going to miss it for sure...would love to know if I can help the cause and keep it up and running.

As for ripping off...wrong!
It is the customers choice of whether to make the purchase or not. And the flip side of things, screw Hollywood...they have commercials and sponsors to pay for those things.

Stealing is stealing. But then if 99% of this stuff is never going to make it to the Korean market, why not? There were oodles of films I would have gladly paid money for to see in Korea that never made it.

In Canada you can get a terabyte of storage for under $200 I believe. Man. I like life.

Buying storage and loading it up from blueyoyo is a very good idea. I still have an old hard drive chock-full of old foreign movies and stuff I got from them like two years ago that I still haven't got around to watching...I know it's been a while since I've been a member, but the variety of obscure and cool stuff on blueyoyo has all the free sites beat to hell twice. It's what demonoid wishes it was.
Hell, I might even buy another external and get in on it while I can...
