This is an update to the other thread on this SERIOUS issue.
I understand that Korean culture is very "top down" but seriously just as other posters here have pointed out, most decisions are handed down without any respect or dialogue. It makes planning an absolute nightmare.
I have had to phone myself to request information but I am treated with scorn and a "why do you need to know attitude".
I got irate with my co-teacher for explaining to me about all the teachers leaving in December. --- my response to her was, "why do you think NETs want to leave Korea?" --- she said it was because they were unqualified... then I preceded to tell her it was because of the utter lack of support from SMOE and Xenophobic attitudes that makes a poor working atmosphere.
I think I then explained to her to stop watching too much SBS ..BS and start looking with her own eyes.
I am really beginning to hate this country and quite a few people in it.
I am sick and tired of being pushed and not taken seriously.
I had what I thought was a good working relationship with my school, doing extras, happy kids, etc etc... it seems they don't care anymore.
Pretty sad state of affairs!!! |

Well, I don't know if I can. I can deal with it to an extent, but what is happening here is simply ridiculous.
Why am I being treated like dirt for asking questions, when I am working in a total vacuum.
I cannot work like this. |

1. Do a runner,
2. or tell them you quit and walk out. If they question why, then treat them show them the bird and walk off. |

No I will stay and educate them so they can understand us better.
I will not run from this. I think they seriously have no communication skills.
Running just makes me/us look worse. I have decided to write a departure letter just incase they become difficult about things. |

Although your idea of educating them can work for normal people, it won't work for K-PS teachers.
Running doesn't make you/us look worse. It'll make them look bad under the eyes of their bosses and also let them know you/we won't take BS from them. |

It's pretty apparent they can't manage in this country, at least in the public sector. If you want to complain, make sure you point out the deficiencies and lack of professionalism are caused by Korean culture and its emphasis on hierarchy and artifice. They'll remember that one. |

Negative on this one. It does make us look bad as they have more reason to say we are "unqualified". I rather not give them any excuse to use the BS they see on TV.
Educated people believe what they see on TV is real... oh dear.. |

Shhhhhhh... Keep it down or they might catch on to why we like their poor management skills...
If they start to let us educate them properly they'll start speaking English as well as we do and then we'll all be out of a job |

NO. no. If your school is as bad as it sounds, then they don't fucking care which is why it got so bad in the first place. Koreans talk a good game about education, but from what I've seen their horrible management skills become such a detriment to education that it borders on neglect.
just leave. |

You are experiencing one of the crappest aspects of Korean culture. My boss is exactly the same. Sh*t drops down here and it's always last minute and it always lands right in your mouth.
Live it or leave it. There is no cure/solution/compromise/remedy; you either stay or leave.
Oh, and doing more for your school such as after classes will not win you anything; they will just think they can drop anything in your lap in the future and will make you feel really bad if you want to say 'no'.
It sounds defeatist, but it's just acceptance. Once you accept that their culture suffocates learning and creativity you can get on with things.
Don't rage against the machine; it will just revoke your visa or give you more extra classes |
