I kid you not -
IPark Mall - next to Yongsan Station
upstairs above Yongsan Station - there is a hall way of restaurants, then you can enter the Mall - that first entrance there is a pet store area, some camping gear and bicycles - the pet store always has cute little puppies for sale but this time in a special display I looked once,
twice
and still couldn't believe it - there about the size of a coffee cup - curled up in little balls of spiky-fluff-like - ? huh?? maybe 5-6 of them
I stared and just couldn't believe it - but did recall K students seemed to be pretty familiar with hedgehogs when the don't know mny other wild animals -
are these actually sold as pets here? novelty pets or something? are they eaten?
anyone know what's up wtih this? |

I use to buy them in China and set them free in the woods. I think they were going to eat them. |

They are a novelty pet where I'm from too. A girl I went to high school with had one. Personally, I don't see the appeal. At least with a hamster you have to wait for it to bite you before it hurts to touch it. |

Ha! If you think the hedgehogs are amazing, you obviously didn't see the cat they had at that same shop! It's kept on a leash inside and is usually hiding in those scratching post/house things.
It is the sulkiest-faced molly I've ever seen, probably because the shop girls dress it up AND EVEN PUT MAKE-UP ON IT!! It's hilarious until you realize how sad the poor thing is. . . |

I actually forgot I posted this - am glad to see it get bumped - so what kind of pets do they make? do they housebreak pretty well? or do they have to stay in a containment facility (i.e. cage)?
what do they eat ? how long do they live? I couldn't believe how cute they are! |

If I have a shithouse day going and looking at the animals at e-Mart is one of the things I do. The hedgehogs are my favorite. I had heard you could keep them as pets but Korea is the first time I have seen them in captivity (they are quite common on the folks' farm). They are surprisingly pricey at 150,000won. |

haha i found this thread kind of funny too, but yeah hedgehogs are also sold in america as pets. I think they are called pygmy hedgehogs. I assume they are cared for like rabbits and that your supposed to keep them in a cage unless your taking them out to play with or something. I think they may also be susceptible to genetic diseases or something. I don't remember the exact details, but i'm sure theres something about it on wikipedia or google.

Has anyone been to the Homever in Bundang lately? (The "Teddy Bear" one in Ori.) They have a chipmunk for sale in their pet department. |

Hedgehogs are kept in their own homes/cages. They sell hedgehog food at the pet store and you can also buy live meal worms for them. I'm not sure how long they live. I do know they're nocturnal and may make a lot of noise at night. |

My brother and SIL have 2 hedgehogs as pets...they are cute but I don't want to touch them. They pet them but no thanks!! Pretty much they sleep a lot or run in their wheels...when they are let out they run around and poop on the floor. Not fun IMO.
Sonic is an over-used name for a pet hedgehog. If you get one, you should name it "*beep*". |
