Hey guys, i'm moving to Daegu the end of december. Just seeing if anyone out there lives in the city? I've got a couple buddies in Busan and Ulsan, but heading to Daegu solo. looking to make some contacts out there for drinking nights, hiking, sports, whatever! I"m moving from Toronto, Canada.

There are a ton of people here, but I think only a few browse Dave's. Just go on facebook (if you don't use facebook, sign up) and search groups or people for "Daegu". Lots of stuff will come up, and just start friending people.

I don't go out much, but I can tell you that there is a strong foreigner scene here, so don't worry about it.

If you are going to a school where there are already teachers, you're set. If you end up working alone, here's what you do:

Climb into a taxi, say 'sumdok sobung soh' (good luck with the pronunciation (I'm trying to write it as you would say it...or you can ask someone how to say 'fire station' at your work - that's the 'sobung soh' part).

The taxi should drop you across from a convenience store. Cross the road toward the convenience store and walk down the road beside the store - this is your way into downtown. Look on your right for a blue sign that says 'Commune' - walk into a short passage and go downstairs into a place that has Kurt Cobain drawn on the wall.

To give you directions all over the place is a bit crazy...so, if possible, ask people where you can find 'Thunderbirds', 'Itaewon Crew', 'BilliBow' (I've never been there) and 'Club That'. They're all within 5 minutes of each other.

Oh, yeah...there's a soccer league, a foosball league, a baseball league, a darts league (that one's just started I think) and there are trivia nights every second Friday.

I just moved to Daegu in September, and I love it here. It's really easy to make friends, and the bars here are awesome. It's really easy to make friends too. Where are you coming from? There's a lot of brits and canadians here, not so many americans (besides the army). I'm from the US, and I've only met a few people from back home. But, if it's drinking you're after, feel free to send me a message when you get here. Downtown can be scary on your own, and I'm just now starting to figure out where everything is. I'd be more than happy to show you around. What school will you be teaching at?

By the way, to the guys who answered before--do either of you know a place that carries american college football games? Long shot, I know, just thought I'd ask.

If you're on Facebook, type in Daegu Baseball...or Daegu Softball 2008. Those were the 2 groups I could find.

As for any American Football...I'm not American, so I have no idea. That said, however, chat to the folks at T-Birds and Holy Grill. You can possibly figure something out.

Hey Jill, great to hear, can't wait. i'll definatly drop you an email when i get there. as for college football, i'm hoping someone can answer you b/c i'd love to catch some of the BCS bowl games, but who know's if that's possible. any NFL coverage over there? or is the time difference too drastic?

We'll be starting the Daegu softball league up again next March. Signups will be coming at the beginning of the year.
