Do you co teach? For public school teachers. This doesn't include after school programs that are generally solo

I coteach 8 per week (I assist), 7 solo, and I have a Korean assistant (not a regular teacher) for the afterschool program. I teach elementary school.

Most of my classes their regular teachers showup for a token face saving appearance and then leave.

Yes, all my classes are "co-taught".

Nine months now of teaching half the class in the English Zone alone while my former co-teacher teaches the other half in the classroom.

CT 1 - makes an attempt at co-teaching with me, what i mean by this is she stands up there with me (usually), smiles a lot, and gives cheerful orders to me and the students every now and then. i teach about 95% of the time with her.

CT 2 - does nothing but tries to hide in the back of the class (preferably near a window to stare out of or near the door to escape as soon as the bell rings). i teach 95% as she does discipline the kids.

CT 3 - absolutely useless. does not understand spoken english (and no, i don't have an unusual accent). she often sneaks out of class early, or just walks in and leaves at the beginning. does not discipline. i teach 100% in her classes.

CT 4 - the closest thing i've ever had to co-teaching. she mostly just speaks in korean, but she translates without asking and helps me with the kids. the class is about 80/20, me and her.

CT 5 - she's ok, i don't know quite what to make of her. sometimes our classes go really well, but other times there's a lot of tension. usually i teach 85% of the class. she'll translate when i ask her and usually try to help in some way.

CT 6 - useless, but not as bad as CT3. she understands english, so i can ask her to translate and she does. but the kids get out of control in her classes and so discipline is usually up to me. she usually likes to sit down during my classes either at the front or back of the room. i teach 95% of the class.

Public high school. No co-teachers, and never a mention of one either.

Fine with me. I'd rather teach alone anyways. Now if they were elementary students...I'd be demanding a co-teacher.

Mine really vary from my grade 2 MS co-teacher who's missed one lesson this year to my 'main' HS co-teacher who's been physically present in the classroom with me on perhaps five or six occasions this year (if you include stopping by to check up on something).

CT1. I used to do 5% and was just the human tape recorder, now I do 70% which is perfect, a good mix

CT2 I do 90% A nutty bitch who usually stands at the back/uses class time to do her own work/rarely pays attention/ gets students to help her with her own chores during class time/ keeps control only if they become deafening

Never, not once since day one.

Even during observation classes where office of education people come to observe co-teaching it didnt happen.

I've been alone since day one. Frustrating at times but I do enjoy it.

I teach alone, and I'm really happy about it. The first day I was at my school, one teacher came up to me and said "My English skills are poor...." I knew where it was headed, so I said, "That's ok, you don't have to come to class. She passed on the message, and, except for one guy who comes to make sure the students are awake, I've taught alone.

It would have been a BIG challenge for a newbie, since it's a tough school (not technical, but close!) and 85% of the students will get jobs after graduation. Most have no interest in English...they're just putting in the time until they get a diploma. Discipline can be a real challenge when students just don't care. They don't care if they get punished, either.

I don't know what I'd do with a co-teacher if I had one!!
