Trouble is, they are ALWAYS recruiting for this position although it has highly attractive terms and is in a very good location in Busan. I get the sense that instructors only stay a year.
It might be fine, but I'm a little suspicious. Anybody have word?

Read the advertisement carefully. 2.4 is NOT a good salary if they are only offering 8 weeks total vacation per year. The university is a bit far from most of the happening spots in Busan, and way up on a mountain.
Still, my wife and I would have considered it if they had given normal vacation. And what's with the 2-year stipulation for airfare refund? |

| Hmmm...4 weeks summer and winter. Sounds like a camp is involved here, but not mentioned. 52 weeks - 8 for vacation, semesters (16X2) 32 weeks. Where do the other 12 weeks fit in??? |

Salary-wise, Busan tends to suck for uni's - simply because lots of instructors want jobs there. 2.5 for 12 hours is good for Busan even with a camp, whcih I assume pays some more.
But that's why I am interested in what is going on with the turnover? I know folks in Busan who are re-signing their uni gig for 1.9. How come no one here will stay for 2.5? |

Foreign Scholars Merit Equal Status
The foreign professor -- colleague or hired hand?
JoongAng Daily (June 14, 2002)

[foreign professors] tend to be treated as hired hands, without academic standing, and lacking the possibility of career advancement or tenure. They must submit to yearly contracts (compensated at a rate only 60 percent of their Korean peers) while walled off from the permanent Korean faculty who benefit from travel, research funding, sabbaticals, etc....
According to the Samsung Group's chairman, Lee Kun-hee, to succeed globally, Korea must forgo the thought that Korea and being Korean is superior, and foreign specialists must be treated with respect.... |

| I know someone working there who has been there for 3 years. Another guy left after one year. They might try some crap and some teachers put up with it and others don't. I'm only speculating though. I do know some teachers teach OT at a hagwon run by the university which is more centrally located, about 20mins or so from the main campus. |
