the threads on best bars in hongdae/sinchon, etc., lately have got me reminiscent about my favorite, now long gone bar, rolling stone. i know it closed over a year ago, but i thought it deserved mention. that place was by far the best spot my buddies and i used to hit. good atmosphere, reasonably priced booze, and great music. the sisters who ran it were absolutey fantastic.
the few of us who lived in the sinchon/hongdae headed to different corners of the city for better opportunities, marriage, whatever. rolling stone kind of fell off the radio for awhile. then, to our horror, we returned last october to find the place closed up. it always seemed to do quite well. it drew crowds throughout the week. we were absolutely puzzled as to why rolling stone closed its doors for good.
i know sinchon has watts, mike's cabin, nori, the underground, king's tap (maybe), woodstock, and others, but the area took a serious hit when rolling stone went under. anyone else miss that beautiful bar? hell, anyone know what happened? |

I`d like to know what happened too.....used to go there also.
As for Kings Tapp......stay away from there at the moment. The foreign owners are getting screwed.....
This is a message they sent from their facebook page
[i]Hi all,
We are currently in a lease dispute with the Korean lease holders. The Koreans have gone back on their word and are trying to squeeze us out of the business.
This has happened to other foreigners before in Korea and it is a practice that needs to stop.
We closed the doors for over a week and have left the problem for the lawyers to handle. However, the Koreans decided to open the bar behind our backs anyway, trying to capitalize on our investments of time, money, and ideas.
Update: We have received word that the lease holders, with whom we are in a legal struggle with at the moment, may be trying to open The King's Tap without us there. They may be attempting to make money off of our large investments of time, money, and ideas.
As many of you know, this sort of thing has happened to other foreigners trying to run a business in Korea and we need your help sending the message that this is no way to do business.
We ask that you please refrain from frequenting The King's Tap until all the dust has cleared.
Thank you for your continued support of our bar and we hope to be serving you again in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Matt and Dave
P.S. Please spread the word. |
