South Korea has been accepted into the US visa waiver program. When does it actually take effect? |

Not job related (should be moved to the travel forum)
BUT
- Effective from November 17, 2008, nationals of Korea (Republic of ) will be able to enter the U.S.A. under the V.W.P., provided:
a) holding an e-Passport (containing electronic chip) and
b) having obtained ESTA approval, submitted via https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/

The true question is: if Koreans are going to be granted 90-day stays in the US, does this mean the deal would be reciprocated?
I hope so..... |

I thought I read in one of the announcements that it will indeed be reciprocal for US visitors. |

It will probably be revoked if a trade war breaks out between ROK and the USA. |

Am I missing something? It already is reciprocal, isn't it?
And, does New Zealand have one of said deals?
Edit: Okay, found this:

Which countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program?
Andorra France Luxembourg Singapore Austria Germany Monaco Slovenia Australia Iceland Netherlands Spain Belgium Ireland New Zealand Sweden Brunei Italy Norway Switzerland Denmark Japan Portugal United Kingdom Finland Liechtenstein San Marino |

From The Korea Times,
"U.S. President George W. Bush Friday will announce South Korea's entry into the Visa Waiver Program, which allows Korean citizens to stay in the U.S. for up to 90 days without visas, and vice versa, Yonhap News reported quoting officials in Washington Thursday."
Reciprocity indeed. |

Aye, but... last time I checked, we could already stay in Korea for 90 days without a visa?
At least, my passport has a stamp from 2006 with a 90 day permit... |

Americans get 30 days on a visa waiver stamp into Korea. This can be extended to 90 days by visiting your local immigration office and paying the extension fee.
They get 90 days on a tourist visa.
AFTER November 17 they will get 90 days on a visa waiver stamp.
EVERYONE else who is arriving on a visa waiver into Korea gets 90 days with the exception of Canadians who get 6 months (again reciprocity).
