Hi: the information I've found about EPIK is quite old (2003), so I need to know about it before I set sail for KR. The bottom line: has anybody out there worked and not been paid by EPIK?

I'm not exactly desperate, but truthfully, 60-year-olds are not paid as well as EPIK would pay me. Also, getting hired isn't easy now I'm 60, except in the PRC. I could work there until I die.

I've taught overseas for 20 years so am prepared for anything short of downright non-payment. THAT would be major. In a 3rd world country, you can scream for your cash; in Korea, it might be more complicated.

Thanks.

Injun

I work with epik in Gyeongbuk. I know a couple of people in their 50's and are doing quite well. I've had no problems so far and my school is sticking to my contract as far as deductions and payment schedules.

I know of several teachers well into their 50s and are doing fine here in Gangwondo... Some have been here several years...others have come in the last couple... Anyway, getting paid is not an EPIK problem... Getting placed in the area/city you request is another... Just be prepared to go anywhere other than where they tell you'll go... at the last minute... Mad

On the EPIK home page for 2009 information they have stated that for 2009 they will be enforcing the 55 yr maximum for applicants
They started this last year but a few places bent the rules and hired over 55yrs. I have not heard of any new teacher to Korea of 60 yrs being appointed even for this year . Plenty of people in their fifties yes , but 60 plus .... hmmm

Here in Gimhae for EPIG, they are not so 'ageist'... no problems with 'experienced' types in this town!
