Recruiters are still claiming that $1 = 1,000 won.

Up to $2,800 a month!

Umm, more like $1,990.

$30,000 - $33,000 a year!

More like $21,000 - $23,430

I noticed that too the other day and was wondering why.
It's a shame about the won but it is still possible to save a good amount here. Then again... I guess that all depends on what you consider a "good" amount.

Teaching jobs back in my state start at over USD 32,000 per year (which is nothing compared to other places) but I seriously doubt much if any of that goes into your pocket or bank account. I don't know about other countries but the situation in the states right now really is beyond bleak. Even with the falling won, Korea still seems like a safer financial bet. Then again...

They're trying to play it that the devaluation of the won is only temporary and we'll be back to the normal 1000 per dollar real soon. Of course, there are many facts pointing that it's not a temporary change.

Maybe anyone that comes over without checking the spot price of the won vs. their currency deserves to be making less? Laughing
