Winter is coming up, and it will be my first winter riding a scooter.
What do you guys to to keep warm? snowboard pants? long johns?

a few tips

you can buy a lot of gear fairly cheap for riding a scooter

Winter snowboard pants - can be found for as little as 10,000 won (more often for 50,000) in Itaewon at the North Face Shop (they sell some no name cheapo stuff sometimes) or in the outdoor markets (like Dongdaemun or Yound-dung-po) or in small sports shops.

Or you can get real motorcycle over pants - about 50,000 to 100,000 a pair at either the Maxler shop in Itaewon or the motorcycle shops near Chungmuro Station.


Jacket - winter jacket should do the trick, i found one for 40,000 won in Youngdung-po market. or you can hit up the Maxler shop and pick up a Motorcycle specific one. I ride with my summer jacket (with armour) under my ski jacket and a sweater.

Boots - full leather boots from Itaewon - 50,000 - 80,000. I suggest wearing full leather for protection all the time. Feet and legs are the areas of the body most injured in accidents. I have even heard of a guy who lost several toes while wearing leather boots and only going about 70km/h....sometimes shit just happens and the pavement eats you up. Protect yourself.

gloves - cheap full leather gloves for 10,000 won in the open markets or more heavily protected motorcycle gloves - Chungmurro or the Maxler shop. I bought xxxl gloves and wear wool liners in them. 20,000 won- 30,000

Grip covers - 10,000 at any motorcycle shop

lever covers - 10,000 won at most shops (metal levers really sap your heat)

face cover - 2,000 won at any motorcycle shop or market (neoprene and fleece) I prefer my windstopper gore fleece though, it's from Canada, not sure they are available here

I also suggest getting some knee armour, going down on some ice isn't fun and knees get pretty damaged in crashes

I don't ride a scooter, but I do ride my bicycle through the winter. The first part of me to get cold is the region that is covered by my underwear. I've been known to wear multiple pairs of undies.

I started sporting some ski goggles on the really cold days last year in MN.

I have an advantage though, I am creating body heat.

I'd be worried about hitting black ice or slippery spot. Snow is even worse than hitting sand where you just easily lose control. Be careful.
