Quote:
One in every three female secondary school students in Busan were found to have received sex trade proposals while chatting online, according to a survey by the Ministry of Gender Equality Monday.

The ministry questioned 2,012 female students in the southeastern port city and found 33.4 percent, or 672, answered they received prostitution offers.

Among the female students who received the offers, only 35 percent said they ignored them. Nearly 20 percent said they were actually engaged in the sex trade, while the rest said they were ``intrigued'' by the offers.
``It's a survey of students in Busan and it could be difficult to generalize. But it's obviously a case in point showing how serious online sex trading is,'' a ministry official said.

It also shows that many teenagers are vulnerable to the online sex trade, he said.

Among those who sold sex, 37 percent said they did so on impulse, 25 percent did so for money, and the rest out of curiosity and other reasons.

Asked about the reasons for the frequency of sex transactions online, 37 percent cited easy accessibility and 33 percent anonymity. The rest answered that they can sell sex with little worry of being caught by police.

When I taught freshman at Low tier University here, I had a few 'coffee gilrs' in my classes. I know only because I saw them riding around town. (This was a very small town).

Coincidentally, they were the ones that seemed overly affectionate towards me when exams were handed back and grades were being given.

More news for me to gleefully share with my girlfriend! YAY!

(Seriously, though, that's a ridiculous amount!)

Theres something about prostitution that made it easy for me to ignore their advances. Call me crazy.

One of the girls (two total) never came to my class. She had to arrange for exam rewrites and failed every one of them horrendously.
The last class of the year, she finally attended. SHe sat front row, center... all bright eyed and smiling from ear to ear... pretended to take detailed notes.

At the end of class she came up to me and remarked at how 'handsome' I was. She stroked my hand as she said it, too.
I don't think she had many call-backs in her line of work.

Not really shocking. If you're profile states that you're a teen aged girl, and your in some public chat room, there will be tons of guys trying to chat you up and propositioning you. Although I think that 20% is questionable. I've got to see the questions in the survey to determine if that number is believable.

I think there was a scene in a South Park episode when Cartman made a fake profile and then all of a sudden his screen is filled up with a bunch of unsolicited chat windows. Funny stuff..

Are they hitting up people through nateon or what?

Doesn't seem like many people go to chat rooms these days unless it's for some perverted reason. I assume these girls were just picked up in a normal chat going off the info in the article.

Think about it, this means one in five girls you see every day is a prostitute. I don't think so.

Actually, it says 20% of those PROPOSITIONED have played the sex trade. That's 20% of the 33%.

I think it's very believable.

One in 5 girls being a regular hooker is unbelievable.
One in 5 girls having ever done something sexual in exchange for a chanel bag or a new pair of gucci shoes? Less unbelievable Shocked
