I was so thoroughly confused by the first 30-45 seconds of that trailer. I thought someone had uploaded a trailer for "Transformers 2" and labeled it as "Star Trek" instead.
As for the rest of it. "Meh" is all I can say. Doesn't seem overly exciting, but maybe I'm burned out by the crappy "Star Trek" movies now. Although J.J Abrams directing it does make me sort of excited. |

I really hope they learnt their lesson from the last one and didn't make this one into a simple action movie. |

Action wasn't the problem, it's just that it was action without any substance or true meaning to a viewer. First Contact for example had good action, and that was a film still fully entrenched in the Trek universe. This new film is supposed to be aimed at an entirely new audience of fans, while trying to appeal to Trek fans at the same time. Keep in mind this is a reboot of Trek, so it's going to be very different from any of the previous movies. |

If the trailer is any indication, Trek has gone the direction that Batman did, which is a good thing. Just compare the Batman franchise (post-Tim Burton) with Dark Knight / Batman Begins--I don't think you'll disagree that the quality of film making is significantly better.
The first four ST films were in a league of their own, then another hit with "Generations" but after that things started to stray. It looks like the bar will be set high once again! |

Yeah they do seem a bit young. But hey, in the future whose to say that so called "astronauts" won't be much younger? I can imagine young crew, but it seems kind of odd that a Captain can be so young though, even in this fictional universe... |

Yes, a naval captain in his early-20s. Those guys look even younger than the lieutenants in Top Gun.
This seems meant for undergrad audiences. Still looking forward to seeing it. |

Kirk isn't the captain in the movie. He's only on the bridge crew. If thats what your referencing anyways.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
1000 times NO. This is NOT Star Trek
God DAMMIT Roddenberry would be spinning in his grave! Abrams couldn't direct traffic on a one way street. About the only thing it looks like they have right from TOS cannon is that the Enterprise was built on Earth in San Francisco and that Spock is Half Human.
If they pull another Nemesis I am going to cry. They already futurized the Enterprise so it looks like it will go faster and do more than the original.
And it's not like they could pick a new dead horse. They could have done the Romulan wars if they were going to do a prequil movie... Why didn't they do something where the new Alpha-Quadrant Alliance faces the Borg. |

Well it does involve Romulans. Futurized? How so? Just because the phasers look better and the sets look shinier, doesn't mean they are more advanced than what was presented in TOS. Don't judge a flying tin can by it's paint job. As for Nemesis, well, I think ANYTHING will be better than that crap. |
