|
|
I am going back to America for Thanksgiving. It looked like Wii Fit is going to be reduced to $90 on "Black Friday". If I buy a Wii there, does it work in Korea? I assume that it does (after getting a 240/120 voltage converter). Both US and Korea are NTSC video, so that should be OK.
Do you think the "Wii Mod Chip" done in Yongsan will work OK on American bought Wii's? It would be nice to download and play games.
I plan to get the balance board in America. Last time I checked it was not available here in Korea. |

Yes, it will work in Korea.
I got mine in Canada. I use a step down converter. I also got it modded here in Korea (yongsan), no problems at all. |

One thing to note: it is currently not possible to make a non-Korean Wii play Korean games. Not that there are any Korean exclusive games worth playing mind you. |

I doubt nintendo will make any games exclusively for the Korean market anyway.. so it is a moot point. |

Great, thanks for the help!
I'll see how my baggage weight is doing before I come back and maybe get the Wii and balance board.
Thanks, Drew |

I am planning to do the same as the OP. I have a transformer for the voltage, but I wasn't sure if I needed to get a NTSC converter or not. Glad to know I don't!
What is a "step-down" converter? |

Voltage in Korea is 220
N.A is 110
You plug it into your wall, and the wii into it. It changes the voltage to 110, so that you don't fry your machine. |

The TV's in Korea and USA are both NTSC format; not PAL like in Europe. Despite all this NTSC and PAL stuff, tv's are going to a universal standard when it comes to HDTV just like computer monitors. Well, there's little different except the TV's cost more than a computer monitor with the exact same capabilities. HDTV's come in larger sizes than monitors, but both are the same technology. There's 2 kinds of HDTV, one low res and one high res. You want the 1080i high res for the newer video game systems like the Wii. 1080P is even better to get if you have a Blue-ray player. |

So will games from the USA and Canada work on a Korean Wii without a chip being put in?I am worried about this. I know some systems have this problem. |

No, you need a chip. Wii games are region encoded. |

This is misleading and not entirely true. It can be done (through gecko) by exploiting the zelda twilight hack. You would need an original copy of zelda the twilight princess though. |
