I found some interesting photos of Old Korea. Sorry if these have been posted before.
If you go to the guy's "sets" you will see a ton more of Japan, but be aware, there are some that show nips, so possibly not safe for work especially in Korea). But the site you will go to from the link provided is all good and safe.

Wow, that's interesting. Looks like a real Asian country like I would expect it to look and how I imagined it after going to old places and reading up on the history. Things have drastically changed in Korea while you can still get an experience of old Asia in other countries such as China, Myanmar, Cambodia, and even Thailand. There's such little evidence physically remaining of how things used to be, but I got the idea after seeing much of Korea. Viewing these pictures makes me wonder why Korea gave up a way of life that worked for a very long time. I just don't feel that what they're doing today is sustainable like the old way was. I guess they just wanna try to be like rich countries.
Thanks for posting. |

Work for who? The rich and powerful, maybe. It's true that Koreans seem to have really gone from one extreme to another, but in time that pendulum will swing back towards the middle so that average Koreans will have a decent life. Still, despite all the job stress and studying, I'd still say Koreans now live better than back then. |

Really! A tradition that never should've ended in Korea! |

I'm assuming the statement has to do with the old pictures that show Korean women with their breasts exposed out of their hanbok.
Those pictures were taken by the Japanese and woman were forced to expose their breasts. Pictures such as those were used as justification of the colonization of Korean to Western powers by the Japanese. The Western powers at the time could easily understand the idea of civilizing the "uncivilized". |

I figured "nips" just meant "Japanese people."
Pretty unusual captions by the writer. He seems to totally have a problem with Japanese imperialism without a bit of criticism of Korean culture of the time. |

Actually, "nips" was referring to nipples, but on a different page. I must have missed the Korean areolae. |

Ok~ I figured nips referred to the pictures in which certain revisionists use to currently justify Japan's past aggression (some of you might know of a certain Australian blogger )
Anyways, cool photos. It's interesting how dark the complexions of most of the people seem. |

Umm... I'm not certain of which photos you're speaking of, but I can assure you that Korean women were running around bare-chested in areas such as Suwon as late as at least 1950 -- it had NOTHING to do with Japan at that time, I can assure you. My uncle was here during the Korean war, and remembers this quite vividly. I didn't even bring up the subject. He launched into a story about what he'd seen while he was here for my wedding last year. He told it as if it were not some rare incident, either.
Based on his personal experience, I'm not buying the "... forced to expose their breasts..." theme which seems to be pushed by some these days.
Isn't it amazing how much history is changed by people with an agenda? I'm not picking on you, CA... I'm just saying.... you have to wonder how much history as we know it has been influenced by people who want a certain image presented. |
