Two men were nabbed Tuesday for making and selling 50,000 fake plastic bags for garbage disposal on suspicions of fabrication of public documents.
Police confiscated 2,530 plastic bags as evidence. They produced fake garbage bags worth 60 million won and sold them at 30 percent cheaper than normal prices to nightclubs, supermarkets and restaurants in the city.
They are suspected of having produced the fake bags in China. Police believe more have been distributed, considering the city saw a one billion won reduction in sales of plastic garbage bags.
Nineteen shop owners who bought the bogus bags have been booked without physical detention.
Meanwhile, the city has been putting bar codes on authentic plastic bags to distinguish them from phonies since August. |

| Okay, really stupid question here. Do they not sell garbage bags in this country somewhere? I've been all through Emart and I can't find them. I end up buying shopping plastic bags to carry my stuff in that I end up using for garbage bags, but it seems so inefficient when I can pretty much carry what I want without having to buy a bag to do it. But when I go through the bag section, all I've found is plastic wrap, aluminum foil and sandwich bags. |

They do have garbage bags (government produced)..
pink - dry garbage
yellow - wet garbage
You will have to ask the counter staff for them as they are a bit expensive. |

Most shops should sell them
I've never been to emart or any of the big marts to get them though, the small corner shops owned by ajosshis and ajummas have plenty so i never felt the need |

YOu can usually get them at LG 25, 7-11, or any other kind of mini mart.

You don't pay directly to the hauling company for trash service, you pay for bags. E-Mart sells them, but you can buy them at the corner store for the same price. The cost of the bag pays for trash removal.
Edit: And don't think you can go to the next town over and buy bags and use them at home! If I buy bags in Daegu, I can't use them in Waegwan. You need to buy the bags in your community so the tax money goes to the right place. |

Yep, you have to buy it from your own Gu or they wont pick up your trash |

I had this problem until recently. You need to look for the Ministry of the Environment sign outside the shop. Then they usually have them behind the counter for some reason so you'll need to ask for them. It turns out that in my area one of the 7-11s sells them as well as a mini-kiosk within the supermarket, and that seems to be all. |

Just go to the nearest corner store from your apartment and ask. You can get fined if you put general rubbish in shopping bags (recycling is fine tho) |

| Okay, good to know. Thanks. There's a convenience store on the corner; I'll ask them later today for garbage bags. I'd hate to think people were thinking I was trying to get around the system by using shopping bags when it was just me and my stupid western naivete. |

Does each city have its own system? Like how to separate?..
mine they have 20L and 10L size bags that are white (general trash acc to landlord)
and 5L and 3L size bags that are orange (for food).
My landlord's english isn't all that great so I'm not sure if I understood her correctly. A friend told me her coteacher said they separate by burnable and nonburnable  .. |

My district in Yongin doesn't have bags for food/wet garbage, although it's still separated from the dry.
The 25 litre size should be OK for dry stuff that can't be recycled unless you're doing a spring clean and need the 50l. |

does wet mean food then? and dry.. what goes in dry? The recycling stuff, is that just bottles or does paper also go in a separate bag? @_@ |

They use the same thing in the more affluent areas of Hennepin and Wright Counties, Minnesota. If it's not in a company's bag, nobody will pick it up, and you will get a fine. And the fines aren't cheap. |
