Well I'll be leaving Korea early January and flying into Kolkata. Will be travelling with my gf.

Just wondering for suggestions, I plan on staying for 2-3 months maybe more. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions. We're thinking Rajhastan, Kerala, Darjeeling, Goa, and the cities, etc.

Am I trying to pack too much in too little time? Also wondering about cost per month?

Is there any place I should avoid during a certain season?

Also, any good doctors or is it just the International Clinic that I should visit for immunizations and advice b4 going. Here in Korea that is.

Any help is appreciated. If someone has a lot of experience travelling in India would even appreciate talking on the phone.

Vaccinations are very unhealthy, as are malaria pills. Avoid places if you hear there is malaria there recently.

Sounds strange but coke wth meals is a very good protection in India. If you get sick the local Dr. is the best bet there but some people who choose to carry their own antibiotics.

Avoid fruits and salads with possible water on them and you are just as likely to get sick eating them in a fancy hotel as a dirty street vendor.

India is dirt cheap, live on 300 U.s. a month. Internal flights are expensive, but buses and trains are cheap.

What kind of things do you want to do in India?

welll to tell u the truth i have no real expectations, i want to do a lot of relaxing after living the hectic lifestyle in Korea for 2 years.

I guess India is not the usual place to go for beach relaxing, but will proba spend a month in the South (Goa, Keralam etc), but want to do other stuff, really am going clueless and gonna try to wing it, but want to do a lot of exploring.

this is the best statement you will hear pre-departure. if your girlfriend is getting the required vaccinations (especially anti-malarial pills and typhoid meds), tell her to ask about the specific side effects of each one. trust me, she might not like the answers (personal experience Confused ). india is an amazing country to visit for two or three months. it is very cheap (i agree with the $300 per month) and you'll have no trouble visiting many areas in that time frame. i certainly wouldn't miss out on north india, if i were you. one thing I forgot to mention is that my girlfriend is Indian, but she is from the Northeast States(Mizoram) and has only really visited Kolkata in the past (lived there many years). She's almost as clueless as I am about the rest of the country.

Will it be cold in Northern India in January-Feb?

Even if she's from India, she's fairly well off and although she's not too picky, I don't want to make her sleep in dumps every night. So even if i get a nice room every now and then, is 300-400$ a month still possible?

I was In India last Jan, Feb. Delhi and Rajhastan were freezing, with some school closures because of the cold. You can dress for outside weather but it gets chilly inside at night as there is little or no interior heating.
The weather in kerela was warm and pleasant though, So with the range of territory you plan to cover you'll need a variety of clothes. We started in The north and gave our winter clothes to street people as we moved south.
We ended our trip in the Andaman Nicobar Islands. Laid back but beautiful and accessable. The flight adds to the cost of your trip though

Use a backpack and a light one at that. Buy some indian clothes and just get them washed for cheap. In other words don't take much with you.

i agree. getting your laundry done is REALLY cheap, and not having to lug around a lot of bags relieves a great deal of stress. i brought a small carry-on case for almost one month of travel (and realized i could have made due with a standard back pack). cotton is your friend Wink
