Notice that throughout the article, one martial art is capitalized and one is not.

The above link explains why "karate" is not capitalized. At first glance one would think this applies to Taekwondo as well, but if we look at this sublink
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taekwondo

we have it being both capitalized and non-capitalized. So who knows?

Actually, I think they have a point. Someone messed up. If you are promoting a Taekwondo park, then how hard is it to get people wearing the proper Taekwondo attire? If you're a Taekwondo enthusiast I can see you objecting somewhat to it. I am sure whoever was responsible wasn't trying to offend anyone. It's obvious that someone responsible for the brochure goofed-up big time.

I had actually considered that one might be capitalized and the other not, so I looked them both up in the dictionary, which had them both lowercase. Ah well.

Are you guys serious? you don't see anything wrong with that? Did anyone read this part? "Will you promote the spirit and culture of Korea in a brochure with kimono-clad models?" doesn't this make sense. You don't promote soccer wearing basketball uniforms. Are you telling me that you wouldn't be upset if something like that happend about your sport or whatever?

I agree with the article. Wouldn't it be a little strange if you saw a sign promoting a soccer league and all the models were wearing baseball uniforms?

Folks, NEWS FLASH!!!!! Taekwondo IS karate--with a few changes
(like K. nationalism in the poomsae: "Koryo" "Kumgang" hell the 8 basic
are based on the f'ing korean flag, which they stole from the Chinese; as well as making "rules" for Olympic/tournament purposes)
Don't buy this b.s. that it is an ancient Korean MA practiced by the Hwarang, blah blah blah. Check out the history of it, particularly TKD's "founders": where they went to school, where they lived,
what MA they practiced; you'll see. (Further, don't buy the b.s. about TKD
simply being a K. form of "tang su do"--guess what: karate was called
the same thing (in kanji/hanja) by the Japanese, until Funakoshi switched
"kara"-Tang (China) to "kara"-empty.
The uniform (copied from karate, which itself was copied from Judo);
the belts (also copied from karate, which took it from judo--Kano's idea actually). The forms, the mass training methods, etc. etc. It all was taken from karate.

I think the ad is funny--consider it a visual Freudian slip of sorts;
or, giving credit where credit is due.

No, you promote soccer using your avatar. Lee Hyo Ri in nothing but a blackbelt would have been extremely Korean.

There is no conclusive proof that Taekwondo came from Karate. However, some say many Taekwondo schools were heavily influenced by Japanese martial arts during the occupation period, but that is not to say that Taekwondo and Karate are very similar. Anyway, it's very idiotic for those people responsible for the brochure from the Korean side not to notice the kids were not wearing the right stuff. Were they drinking soju when they approved the thing? I wouldn't be happy if some government people trying to promote tourism or my culture screwed up big time like that, and I am not Korean. I wouldn't be impressed. Why are you guys ridiculing those folks for being upset about it?
