Many public school teachers get 14 or 21 days vacation per year (Not including any renewal home trips etc.).

In cases where people get a lot more vacation than the standard, is it clearly stated in the contract or does the contract still say 14/21 days and just the school kind of 'unoffically' gives the extra days?

The golden rule is:

Complaining to your board of Education that some people get great vacation deals and some don't won't help anyone. It usually results in the whiners not getting any extra days off and the lucky people who get a month off getting burned.

You get whatever the contracts states. Usually 14/21 is what most people get. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

Those who get more because there school gives them the extra time off are simply lucky and it varies school to school.

Last winter I had to warm a chair for 4 weeks while not teaching classes, this winter theyve let me stay home which means about 6 weeks vacation.

I dont tell EPIK, cos thatd be stupid, and I simply enjoy my time. If someone fuct this for me i'd be extremely pissed off.

Strange, this year my school semester ends on Dec. 24 and next term starts on Feb 2. So that's just a c-hair over a month. Out of that I'm taking 19 vacation days (weekdays). There is a plan for a camp but I guess it won't be longer than 1 week.

Virtually all of Jan and Feb, minus 1 week, plus 3 days in December since the school decided to end it early this year. Sweeeeeeet...

Word to the wise.
If you don't want others complaining to the board, quit bragging about all the sweet vacation days you've got. We're not impressed. Just take them and STFU.

I get almost the entire winter vacation off, but it works out that way because I sat down with them and explained that it is disruptive to the students' learning for a teacher to take the two week renewal vacation when regular classes are on. Plus additionally, instead of a raise I bargained for 10 extra vacation days, so this is the amendment that was inserted in the contract:

3. In the case of renewal of this Contract pursuant to the foregoing ①, Employee shall be given two weeks for a home leave which shall take place 2 calendar weeks prior to the contract end date specified in Article 5 hereof until the day immediately preceding the commencement of the renewed term. This two-week home leave will be counted as part of the contract term, and accordingly salary will be paid.
i. Per the above paragraph, the contract is modified to reflect that the employee will take these two paid weeks (10 work days) in conjunction with the regular contractual vacation time of thirty (30) paid work days offered per year in the contract, as a consecutive unit, less seven (7) days, during the winter vacation to prevent classes being disrupted later in the year. This consecutive unit of dates will commence on December 29, 2008, and continue through February 16, 2009.
ii. The remaining dates of the winter vacation, terminating February 27, 2009, will be taken as unpaid leave by the employee. The employee will not receive pay for the dates inclusive of February 17th through February 27th, 2009.
iii. The employee will be ready to return to regular work schedule, on the first day of the school year, March 2, 2009.
iv. The remaining seven (7) days shall be taken during the summer vacation.

*sigh*...if your on great terms with your staff, you can request to not be a seat warmer...hell, even my co-teacher suggested I do that!

They told me that too...the co teacher that I didn't particularly favor(she's a play it by the rules type)....my other co-teacher suggested I could get them off if I asked the principal and made a "request" along with copious amounts of bowing.
