Hi
Can anyone please confirm that it is true that if I have the Disclosure Scotland Check then this just needs to be apostilled by the UK Home Office, but if I have just the local police check (the one with the blue lines at the top and bottom) then this must FIRST be notarised/signed by a Solicitor and THEN apostilled by the Home office?
Thanks - so nearly there now!

The CRC from the police does not need to be signed by a solicitor (notarising is quite different, and a heck of a lot more expensive, than just getting a solicitor to sign your documents). The CRC from the police is an official government document which means the FCO will apostillise it, as is.
Don't go for the Disclosure Scotland Certificate - it's more expensive, you have to get it signed, and I have heard of it causing problems with immigration, as they are more used to seeing regular run of the mill CRCs from the police.
The only downside of getting your CRC from the police is that it takes 40 days from the date you apply. |

The disclosure form has no signature, so it needs to be notarised (i.e. a solicitor's signature added) before it can be apostilled. The paper issued by the police comes signed, and just needs to be apostilled. |

Has anyone been able to confirm if a 'Basic Disclosure' is available from the police? I was under the impression that the subject access check shows arrests, charges and convictions whilst the Scottish basic disclosure shows only convictions.
Is this correct? |

My basic disclosure from Disclosure Scotland had a section for cautions as well as convictions but it's not meant to, according to the information on the website.
The guidelines on the DS website say you should get a full disclosure for teaching but your employer would have to fill out a part of the application. I dare say that would take a while to organise. Nevertheless, immigration will accept a basic level disclosure. |
