|

Just came from 40 College St (Toronto Police Headquarters) to apply for my Criminal Records Check along with my Vulnerable Sector Search. I can apply for the CRC, but, they told me I need to fill out another form for the VSS. The form is provided by the organization that I am going to work for. They also said a representative of the agency or employer must sign the form before I submit it.
Anyone else in Toronto have this problem? Where can I get this form from? And who am I supposed to ask to sign this form?
Thanks! |

save yourself the time and hassles of dealing with toronto. just order one from the winnipeg police sevice. the form is online and it only takes 10 days to process. very little info required on the form, just your signature and 2 pieces of photocopied id, around 3o dollars, and then you have a CRC with VSS. anyone in canada can get one from them. |

You can get a VSS from these people. http://www.commissionaires.ca/
They are located on Toronto St. (I think.) at any rate, there is a map and phobe number. They send it off to another city to do it. My brother went there, then had it notarized, then stamped at the Korean consulate on Avenue Rd. |

Will the Toronto Korean Embassy take the CRC and the VCC that is from Winnipeg Police Service? |

They should, seeing as Manitoba is part of their jurisdiction. Really though, if you are in Toronto, go to the commissionnaires, it is really simple. |

I went with Commissionnaires. Like polonius said, it was really simple and the lady said it only takes about 4 days. Plus, they had one that was literally 5 mins away from me.
Charged about $40 though.....but it saved me a lot of hassale.
Thanks!!! |

I submitted an RCMP check last year; would that have included a VSS as well? |

Why not try any RCMP station just outside Toronto? Any RCMP station will do. Most have the vss form right there. Some charge as little as 25$ and take only 2 days.
Good luck. |

Hi everyone. I'm also in the process of getting both of those two documents done to continue with my acceptance to work for CDI in Korea. So after reading your posts, I take it that I can get both CRC & VSS from the commissionaries instead of having to pay the Toronto Police HQ 26 bucks for the CRC and then another fee for the VSS? I'll pay the 40 for one trip and less hassle. Let me know, thanks! |

I actually just called the Commissionaires and they said that I shouldn't need to go to the Police HQ to get the CRC and then go to them to get the VSS because I can get them both together combined for $39.99 within 6-10 business days. The reason why the Police HQ won't do the VSS is because they only do it for institutions that are registered with them and the Korean Consulate isn't one of them so with the Commissionaries, they are an independent organization that works with the RCMP and they will get the VSS from the Kingston Police. They assured me that they have processed many of these VSSes for people trying to work abroad and before I even said anything about Korea, he said it before me so I am pretty confidant they know what they are doing. |

Odd that only one nationality has to do this. They did this because of the Canadian perv who was arrested here right? |

I was told by a recruiter in America that the perv that got arrested in Thailand for sexually assaulting boys was an ESL teacher in Korea before he got caught in Thailand. He also had a criminal record for sexual offenses against children when he arrived in Korea to teach. He got in because no vss requirement was in place. Hence the changes. |

I think all nationalities need the same check (or the equivalent thereof). It is just a little different because Canada didn't enter into the apostling agreement. At least that's what I was told. I understood that the vss was somehow an "integrated" part of the crimninal record check elsewhere.
In my case, the vss was no extra charge ($25 total) and I just filled out one extra form at the RCMP station to get it. I got it 2 days later. Also, I saw you could get a crininal record check and vss for $29 online with a very fast turn around time if you trust ordering this online. |

Do you have friends or family in any other region?? I'm from Toronto, and am living in St. Lucia - but managed to use my girlfriend's address in peel region to get my record check. They also did the VSS for me and notarized it. Worth a try.
I had previously got ripped off by an out of province police dept. - I went through Springhill, Nova Scotia - and the check looks like it was homemade. |

No, it is because Canada is the only country to have the VSS check available and it is the highest level check they can do - like hunting rabbits with an elephant gun.

No, he had NO record in his home country, was a temp/relief teacher there (which is why he was able to get a E7 and teach at an international school) and would have passed any CRC or VSS check.

No, the VSS includes things that would NOT show up in ANY other country's background check AND the apostile issue is dealt with by way of the Korean consulate certification.
