My hagwon told me about this rebate about a month ago or so. They told me they would take care of it and all the teacher's would recieve their 240 bucks on the next pay day. Well that pay day has come and gone...no 240 to be seen. I asked, and they said they were not in control since it's a Gov't thing. So still no word on it. I'm hoping to still recieve it, but I'm also wondering if my school screwed things up for us. If they wouldn't have said they'd take care of it, I would have taken the required steps to ensure I recieved it.

I've been at the same job for 3 years. They have always been very legit about everything. So, no I don't think they've somehow pocketed money that should have gone to their teacher's. But at the same time, I hope they didn't screw up the process.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Usually tax refunds in Korea are done by your workplace with your salary. This rebate however was different as it is paid directly to your bank account. I recommend you call or visit a tax office and to find out if your school apllied and to apply if your school hasn't done so. I was told that they will take applications until the end of the November.

And it was to be paid directly into your bank account specifically for the reason of curbing corruption. I suggest you check into it and make sure they didn't pocket the money. If they did, you need to make sure they are caught for it.

I think I'll have have a nice Korean beef barbecue dinner tonight.

Thank you Mr. President. Very Happy

I was at one of the Casinos with a coworker Sat night. He went to withdraw money and to his surprise he found an extra 240 bucks in his accound! I immediately knew where it came from and was pretty excited to check my account. So I did, and found nothing more than my previous balance. No rebate for me. Not yet anyway. Will be asking some questions at work tomorrow. I want my 240!!

Was told no by my office here.

I'm on my third year in Korea. I started paying taxes as of September (the first month of my third year). School staff told me I need a residence certificate for it. I told them quite frankly the two aren't related, and I'm paying tax for this year. Deductions of 63,000 a month. I asked them if THEY have to submit a residence certificate to be exempt from taxes this year.

Anyone else in a simliar boat?

I was also told by a friend that the deadline was extended until the end of November too.

I grabbed some cash from the atm last night, and mine was there. Think I'm gonna treat my gf to a nice dinner and get myself a new cell phone.

I was here for all of 2007. And as far as I know, I fell within the 18-36 milion range. But my deposit was only 120,000 won. What's with that?!

My school applied for me but I have yet to receive my deposit. Two of my coworkers got theirs. Just not me. Anyone else in the same boat or should I be worried?
