Friday 11/21 about 7:20 I get off the subway (Seoul Ntl Univ of Education), from orange to green line. Unusually packed, get to top of escalator and there are thousands of people just packed from wall to wall. The escalator is pushing people up and nowhere to go. Really dangerous. It appeared the green line was shut down. Anyone know what was going on? I finally got out to take a bus. There had to be injuries. Can't find anything on the net about it.

Your concept of "danger" is very similar to the Korean concept of "cozy." Doubt you will find any articles in the paper on this experience.

I go through there about every day and have never seen anything like that. It was like a huge Nazi boxcar full of people.

'Where you traveling clockwise or the other way around?'

you mean like anti/counter clockwise?

Ten points for your deductive reasoning skills. Knowing the pedantry that is rife on this board, I didn't want to get into a debate over which is the proper usage. Can I go now?

Last night on the subway on the green line in the area near SNU and Jamsil was absolutely insane. On top of that, there must've been some international high school sporting thing near Olympic Stadium because all these American kids got on the subways and were being absolutely obnoxious.

Yes, the subway was packed. To make it worse, 30 of these students decided they all just had to ride in the same subway car, so they barreled in pushing/shoving. Yelling things at the top of their lungs like:

"OMG! I can't believe we're so cramped!"

"I can't move!!!"

"Why are there so many people!"

"Why can't they make these subway cars bigger!"

I especially loved that "Hey, that Korean guy understands English!"

I was thinking about standing up and berating them in the most colorful English I know. It was a long day at work and I had to go off to a birthday buffet gathering on the other side of Seoul, so I didn't want to waste my energy.

There are some ignorant people in Korea, but visiting high school students from the US take the cake.

I know how Korean students act on field trips all too well, and I would imagine it would be bad with them overseas too. All high school students from all countries should be banned from leaving their country.

Let me clarify. It was not the subway that was packed. It was the station. I was transferring and it was wall to wall packed trying to transfer like the station was filling up but no one could leave. I was just trying to get out.

Cause: Packed subways
Effect: Packed stations because people can not get on the subways.

There is a direct correlation.

And my parents ask me why I don't just stay in the US and teach. Rolling Eyes
