For my next contract, I will be asking for a letter of Release. I will give them a letter of Release and have them sign it. I will leave the date open on the letter.

Should work conditions be no longer tolerable, then I will be happy to fill in that date and say good-bye.

The second thing would be to have them fill out the paperwork allowing me to work at a 2nd job.

They don't care about what we send home. I think they base wages more on domestic market conditions, and I can't see anyone going from 2.1 to 4.2 because of an exchange rate.

Also, in the private sector, tuition fees are capped by law. For public sector, I'm sure annual budgets are pretty much written in stone.

I want a talking, race car driving turkey called Kenneth, who will fill in for me on alternate Mondays and Wednesdays. While I work, Kenneth will compete in drift racing events, the profits of which will be put into a fund to have him cloned.

I will not tolerate Korea another minute unless this is put in my contract next year.

You'll destroy the trust of your working business relationship by requesting a blank letter of release up front. It's just not worth starting off on a bad note like that. You might try interviewing in person, ask some questions about what is expected, what he needs, what his goals for the school are, the financial status of the school, and other things like how many students, the schedule, vacation dates, and ask to see the curriculum and list of classes. You might request to observe a class or two after taking a look at the classrooms to assess the quality of the facilities. This will also let you see how other FT's are behaving in there and even let you hook up with them to see if you might fit in and it's where you really want a job. Read everyone's body language and listen closely to the sounds they produce and their overall behavior, after all it's a sellers market where you have more jobs than applicants. It's not rocket science to tell if someone is dodging your intelligence or is looking to do an honest business and reward you as stated in the agreed contract for your contributions to that venture.

If you notice he is dodging any questions, fidgeting, and looking away with a negative response, then something is not right such as he is trying to deceive and use you rather than being honest and doing the right things until the end. If he can confidently hold himself and answer thoroughly in a way that makes sense, then it's more likely you'll gain enough trust to sign a year of your life away and have a good time saving money for the big trip of a lifetime.

sojourner1, you are absolutely correct about checking out the school to make sure that it is a good place to work. If something about the school doesn't feel right then give it a pass.

When, I started this post, I was thinking about the restrictions in an E2 visa.
Foreign teachers with a f2 , f4 or f5 visa do not put up with a letter of release. I am not aware of any other Asian countries where teachers can't work a 2nd job or quit there job without permission from their bosses.

By asking for these things up front, I will not have a problem later. If I had a f2 or f5 visa, then I wouldn't even bring up a request for letter of release or permission to ask for a 2nd job.

It will suck to be locked into this contract when the won comes back in value.

The hagwon director will be jumping for joy.

In my next contract I will be needing my own personal masseur from Sweden named Swen, who only works naked.

And a Guiness tap in my apartment that magically never runs dry.

No budging on this.
