One of my friends was saying that Koreans are taught that they have bigger brains than Caucasians? Is this true or BS? I mean is it true that they are things like that? |

It's true. I can't remember if the study attributed the size difference as being due to using chopsticks and affecting that motor skill area or just to Koreans having bigger heads.
It's also true that, in general, men have bigger brains then women, and people in their twenties have bigger brains than people in their forties.
Hemispherectomies have been around for a while, and if I recall one of the first cases from psych 101, the guy graduated from law school. When you think that there are a number of intelligent people walking around (probably limping, actually, as a hemispherectomy tends to create problems that way) who had half of their brains removed in childhood, you realize that a couple of grams difference doesn't amount to much. |

Yes - very true...
Koreans are taught that they have -
bigger brains..
higher IQ..
they are more evolved...
they are more dexterious..
that Korea is the only country with 4 seasons..
that Hyundae beach (Busan) is the best beach in the world..
that they eat the healthiest foods..
that only they can eat "hot" food..
etc etc
etc
etc
they are taught lots of BS - and most of it is BS..
but they are taught it - and they believe it - because why would their
textbooks and new-reports not be true?
basically - it shows that most Koreans are the most ignorant, close-minded, conformist, nationalistic, people of earth...
(they are also taught many false and bad things about other countries)...
and yet - they complain that Japan, Philippines etc should change their textbooks... because they have something in their textbooks that "offends" koreans..
but Koreans use textbooks and offend other countries everyday...
(Koreans generally have smaller bodies and smaller heads... how could their brain be larger??) |

My dad had a bigger brain. It got bigger by the year. Over the course of 10 years is IQ moved over 30 points.
Wish I had a brain tumor... |

Actually, it is true. However, it just isn't Koreans, it is all Asians. When I was doing research for one of my classes on racism, we had to make an argument that race did exist. There was a study done that measured things such as brain size, testosterone, *beep* and vagina size, etc. It found that on average, Asians have the biggest brains and smallest penises and vaginas. Black men have the biggest penises and smallest brains. White people are right in the middle of it all. The study also concluded that the differences in brian size had no impact at all upon actual intelligence or performance. However, the higher levels of testosterone in blacks is the reason why they are so dominant in sports at a younger age. It was an interesting study. He also mentioned how it was a completely politically incorrect type of study since the pc groups would not like the results.
So in conclusion, yes, they have bigger brains, but it doesn't impact intelligence. |

That's no problem. Korea has FOUR seasons.
I've also been told by Japanese people that Japan is the only country that has four distinct seasons. |

Yes, but since Honda is better than Hyundai the seasons in Japan are better in quality and those Cherry Blossoms look superb:) Actually, Korea somehow makes me think of Appalachia. I like fall in Korea. So Japanese say the same thing? Maybe, that idea came to Korea from Japan? Korea is a funny country. |

I wasn't referencing the attitudes in Appalachia per se, but the mountains of Korea remind me of some parts of that area, but some of the very rural areas of the US think in a similar way. It makes sense since only recently Korea was an agrarian society. Talk about having bigger brains is not something generally you would discuss unless you were a European from the 1930s.
Anyway, the ancient Romans were not Asians, and they built an empire that ancient Korea never had. Small Athens came up with thinkers scientists that Korea has never had. The Arabs in Andalucia came up with so many ideas the world hadn't seen at that time. It is not about the size of your brain, but the depth of your culture, the openness to scientific reasoning, the ability to be creative. Koreans are creative enough to copy other countries' inventions, but they need to do more. The Chinese have built a civilization that the world owes a ton of debt to. Perhaps, we could say the same about the modern Japanese, and it can happen that the world could owe a lot to an innovative Korea if the Korean people choose to go outside of the box. How have the Japanese managed to have some creative people?
I don't know the difference between the two cultures. Anyway, the most important thing is not IQ results, the size of your brain, but how you use your brain. We have bigger eyes, does it mean we have better vision?
I doubt it. |

Actually, some of my adult students in Japan who worked for the huge Japanese companies told me that the Japanese staff did zero creative work. The companies open branches in Europe and the Americas where they hire people there to do their creative work. The Japanese staff focus solely on improving existing ideas.
I will admit that the Japanese seem to have more of an appreciation for art. The Korean lack of attention in architecture is immediately obvious, but on average they seem to have more appreciation for more varied genres of music, as well. |

This whole post is BS. Koreans don't believe all of this stuff, and it definitely wouldn't make it into a text book. Do you want me to prove it? Okay, let me just open one of my . . .

Thanks Oreovictim for pointing out once again how false and misleading Korean education and textbooks are..
After living here continuously for 7.5 years - I know for a fact - that Korean has 6 distinct seasons each year..
When you they stop preaching their BS? |
