|
|
How many days off do High School teachers get during January and February? None of my co-workers/co-teachers have been able to accurately tell me. I've been told one week by some and two months by others.
How much time to High School NTs typically get off in January to February?
Thanks. |

I would assume that your contract states very clearly how many days you get off. If you can't find your contract, I'm sure the website will tell u.
For SMOE it's 21 days a year. I say this while making an assumption that HS signs that same contract as MS and ELem. |

You're obligated to teach camps during the vacation period. However, most high schools will give more vacation than elementary or middle schools. Talk to your co-teacher and get a plan for your camps. I'm supposed to teach a two week camp with 20 hours of class during each week. I proposed teaching 9-12 and 1-4, thus teaching 40 hours in one week so I could get more vacation. If you have to teach 4 weeks of camps, see if you can condense the hours into 2 weeks |

Not in my experience. All people I know in MS or Elm get pretty much ALL of winter off. Dec 23ish - Feb or March.
High school can be different depending on level.
EG. My HS is open ALL winter for extra classes, and if they want me to teach them, like they made me do last year they can, all i can take is my 21 days. Thankfully this year theyre not including me in the winter schedule so i get all of it off.
But really it varies school by school and district by district. |

Last year I had to do 2-weeks of winter camp which started on Jan 2nd and which was basically 2x50-minute classes per day, easy peasy. After that, I was basically off until March 3rd. Next year seems to be the same as so far as I can tell. However, whether you'll be free to 'disappear' or not or, whether you'll have to keep that chair of yours warm throughout February, is entirely down to the brownie points that you should have been accruing these past couple of months. |

So, is there any possibility that I would be working my normal schedule throughout these months... Like, 20 classes a week (or so), 45-kids per class, three-four classes a day while being required to be in the school for eight hours per day?
Or will I definitely not be doing this? |

I doubt it as semester 1 doesn't start till the beginning of March. |

Yes
Its possible, if your school runs extra curricular classes for students, usually at higher level schools, then they could keep your schedule the same and youll work through winter but still get your 3 weeks or whatever off.
I have a friend how has to do this. Schedule is the same over winter break as any other time because the kids NEVER leave school. Same goes at my school but they (very kindly) decided I dont have to do it. |
