Ok, so I'm probably going to catch a bit of flack for this one, but I thought its worth a try. I'm new to Seoul and my sense of direction is not yet where it should be. I got whiskey drunk on Friday (really whiskey drunk), lost all sense of direction and ended up locking my bike up outside a train station early Saturday morning and finding my way home via subway. The problem is that I can't really remember exactly where I locked up my bike. I want to say it was near one of the exists for Dongdaemun or Dongdaemun Statium. I vaguely recall wandering through an underground mall area which I think was near Dongdaemun Statium. The bike itself isn't worth to terribly much, but to find something here in the equivient size and style will probably cost me 3 or 4 times what it would cost me to put a similair bike together back in the states.
Anyways, this bike probably stands out a bit from most of the bikes that you'll see cuising around Seoul. So if anyone happens to see it and can provide me with the location, there would be some cash in it for them. Here is a picture, it is an older Fuji road frame.

Why not just go to Dongdaemun Stadium (try first) and go out every exit searching for the bike? Try Dongdaemun next. |

I've already spent quite a few hours checking around the area and can't seem to find it. Is bike theft common around here? Maybe it was stolen. |

If it wasn't locked it is stolen. Guaranteed.
If it was locked. It was most likely stolen.
Bike theft is rampant in Korea. Scooter theft too. |

I was hoping that it wasn't stolen, but I am starting to think that it probably was. I am going to give the Dongdaemun area one more gander tonight and consider it a lost cause if I can't locate it. I'll probably be on the hunt for a new bike shortly, I will consider it my Seoul suvenier and eventually bring it home with me. Thanks for the input. |

I just had my bicycle stolen. Had the u-lock through the frame and its back tire, too.
Be careful in all things, though. You could probably get a DUI for riding a bicycle just as easily as it is in the U.S. I'm joking -- the drinking world in Korea would never have such a law like in the U.S. |

actually i'm pretty sure they put a no-drinking and biking law a few weeks back and there was such loud protest against it that they backed down and got rid of it. |

I built it just before I came here, specifically to bring it with to Seoul. Luckily I didn't put much money into it, really only about $65 for the frame and $15 for the bar tape, the rest of the parts I just had laying around. Oh how I wish used parts were as cheap and widely available here as back home.
As for drunk riding, it can be dangerous and I've had a few little crashed, but to get a DWI would be laughable. I haven't driven in sometime now and I really don't see myself owning a vehicle in the foreseeable future, if ever, so I don't think that a DWI would really affect me that much. Oh, except maybe for a job, but if I was up front and explained that it was on a bike I would hope that the hiring company could look past it. |

Are you sure it was Dongdaemun? Have you considered checking near by stations like Dongmyo? |

After recapping everything in my mind, these are the clues that lead me to think that it was Dongdaemun Stadium. It was a very large subway, I recall seeing signs for many subway exits, more than 10. There were tall buildings, more of a downtown type setting as opposed to Dongdaemun Station which isn't as built up. I wandered in a long underground shopping mall. Correct me if I am wrong, but there is a fairly large underground strip by Dongdaemun Statium. I also vaguely recall seeing a Dongdaemun subway sign.
These are all very poor, vague details and not strung together in and particular order. For a while I tried to tell myself I had been abducted by aliens, but I can really only blame myself here. This was mainly brought on by whiskey consumption, but also partialy due to exahustion and lack of familiarity of my surroundings.
Well, after racking my brain and trying to retrace my drunken footsteps, I've all but given up. Now I am forced to decide between a new bike and a Christmas vacation. |

Don't let me discourage you from looking, but most likely it has been stolen. I have seen several old guys get stopped by the police in that area for having stolen bikes on their recycling carts. |
