I'm very scared that I just killed my new (4 months old) PC.
I have a Foxconn motherboard and was using their 'FoxLogo' software to change the logo that appears at startup. It was flashing the bios within Windows but then crashed and stayed hanging for about 20 minutes. With dread I restarted my computer and as expected, it now will not boot.
Is there anything I can do or is it toast? I really cant afford to buy a new computer now  |

| Even if it is dead, you could simply replace the mainboard. Try going into the BIOS menu at startup and having a look there. |

physically remove the bios battery and then put it back in....should reflash bios.
least thats how my mobo does it.....check it out for your specific board though. dont wanna cause more damage! |

Read the owner's manual for your mainboard.
You should be able to either remove the battery (leave it out for about 10 minutes)
OR
there will be a set of jumper pins that you connect and disconnect to reset the BIOS to factory spec.
PS. A replacement mainboard will be somewhere between 50k-150 depending on what it is (quad, dual, P4, AMD, etc) and can be swapped in and out in about 20-30 minutes. |

| The battery thing will probably work. I thought I bricked my PC after I was fiddling with overclocking configurations. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in a few minutes later. It worked like a charm but it did reset the BIOS to factory settings, so I had to change the date and time etc. |

| As others suggested, remove the CMOS battery. Here's a pic to help you know what you're looking for http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/images/cmos_battery.gif. Just take it out for like 30 secs and pop it back in. They may work, maybe not. If not, you may need to get a new MB. |

Thanks for the advice so far. I dont have a screwdriver to hand so I cant get inside it at the moment. I'm writing this running Linux on my PS3 
Anyway I checked out the manual and found this:
