My husband and I are considering taking a job with Kid's College in Daejeon. I have read some really negative threads about Kid's Club and some locations with Kid's College. I know from research that branches within the umbrella of a school can vary widely based on the director. But does anyone have advice for us?

We are also looking into positions in Seoul with Kids College. We would GREATLY appreciate any information. Confused

What did you think about Daejeon?

I know a few people who have worked at the Daejeon location, granted this was a couple years back.

Unless things have drastically changed, I would say stay away. There was a change in ownership, but the "new" owner (as far as I know) has been with the school for years. Typical hagwon issues (constantly changing schedule, adding more classes than you were contracted for, money problems, etc.) and also some not-so-typical ones that I'd rather not get into.

On the plus side, Daejeon is a great city (centrally located, beautiful mountains, good balance of Korean/foreign culture).

i completed my contract for kids college daejeon in oct 2006. at the time, i was only the 3rd foreign teacher to complete the whole year there (besides the head teacher and foreign principal).

the original owner (a korean woman) passed away last year. the foreign principal (from what im told) bought into the school and changed the name to m's college.

there was quite a bit of drama happening before, during and after i arrived and left.

Daejeon isnt so bad. 1 hour by KTX to Seoul station. Same with the other direction to Daegu. No nightlife though. Close to hot springs and Gyerongsan mountain, Gongju, ginseng markets.

I wouldn't say there's no night-life. There's some places you can go on a Friday or Saturday night that would be guaranteed to have some foreigners in: J Rock and Brickhouse downtown, Lucky Strike in Dunsan and Santas in Gundong.

There's not a whole lot of variety, but if I want to go out on most nights, there are options available.
