My first teaching job, doing some listening and repetition with very young students. We're doing the short "i" sound. So I say "hit" they say "hit" a few times over. They're warming up. I say "kit" and they say "kit" a few times. They're showing some enthusiasm now. Then I say "sit" and an entire room of 7-8 year-olds yell out "sh|t".

I didn't know whether to post this on this thread or the other newly begun one..

but here goes.

nota bene: this is a second hand story but it's funny enough (to me at least) where I feel the need to repeat it. No names shall be mentioned in order to protect the guilty and the innocent Smile

There was a substitute teacher I worked with when I first came here to my public high school (technical school). Young guy, early 20's, very earnest BUT when I first met him my American "gaydar" was off the hook.

However, after seeing how Korea isn't quite the US in how men act, etc I decided that my Korean gaydar would have have to be "recalibrated" away from so called US standard.

Anyways - the point of this is to say that the guy is of slight build, but more to the point, is quite effeminate in some of his mannerisms and style and just the way he comes across. By this I mean to say he not only imitates the "Korean metrosexual" look and style, but his mannerisms are definitely at least "delicate". (very much so for a guy)

I still think odds are good he's gay.. but who knows.. anyways.. to the story.

he revealed to me he was having probs with one of my English classes (before I came) - I have an idea of which ones he may be referring to.
So.. he went to their homeroom teacher and said.. can you please control these guys?

but he was busted doing this by one of the students. (going to homeroom teacher to plead for control help)

whereupon the next time he appeared in front of them in class, several of them (and these are fairly rough and tumble broken home technical hs students) said the following to him (in Korean of course)

you went to cry to our homeroom teacher.
you are not a man, you are a woman.
run off and cut off your pe-nis please.

I was rolling on the floor for a good 10 mins upon hearing this.
I felt bad for him, and things are always bad for substitute teachers..
but given his uhem... "delicate" nature and bearing....
to hear them just call him out bluntly this way was too hilarious.

"Teacher, SEE!!!" "Yeon-ho, stop whining." "But Meyung-ji hurt my *beep* you finger!!!"

Your what?

One time I got static from a student for asking his homeroom teacher to keep the class in line. I asked him who he wanted to discipline the class, me or her.

He said "her."

They don't know what I would do to them if they misbehave. They don't want to find out. I just say "Judysangnim will take care of you." and they scoff, then I say "Or I can take care of you right here, right now...?" "TEECHUR NO! I'm SORRY!" Yeah. They don't want to find out.

I feel sorry for that guy. Those kids deserve some classic treatment with the love-stick.

Korean co-teacher: "I'm showing my class an American movie called She's The Man. It's about a girl named Viola who disguises herself as a boy so she can play in her brother Sebastian's soccer team."

Me: "Ah, sounds like it's based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night then."

Korean co-teacher: "Oh, I didn't realise they played soccer in Shakespeare's day."

Well, so far the funniest things have been some of my unique students.
One of my middle school students the other day was having a "punishment" for coming late to a class because she was exhausted.
I read the words out in korean for her and she had to say the English back and pronounce it properly.

We get to Respect and Punctual, and the students pulls me aside and infront of her homeroom teacher lectures the teacher about her coming late to start her home room and calls her a Hipo Kuriti. I was speechless, of course this was all in fun. The teacher was laughing so hard she had to run and use the washroom. Our office was pounding the desks. The student then made a blank face, and then said in Korean.... what was so funny, then made a wicked smartass face.

The response for respect was, "something you are not" ~
This student is one of my favorites because she doesn't give a sh!t. Everyone is fair game for her. I see her in the morning and she is the first one to say good morning Sonsengnim. (not Wonomin).

On my first day at my new school i was assigned a classroom, Venus Class. No one had told me the name of this class before a young Korean lady came up to me and said ' I will be helping you in your penus class today'.....
