Situation: Playing poker with" friends"
You win: but somehow it wasn't the way they would have played the hand.
Result: Anger from the losing player. And it wasn't the first time from this group.
? |
You need some new "friends". |
Clearly. I put it this way to distinguish from a Casino game. |

Don't they understand poker? |
Most players were drinking but none seemed drunk. It was late at night though. |

As for the getting angry if you "take too long"... I'd do it deliberately every time just to get them riled. A riled opponent makes a lot more stupid mistakes than some calm and focused. Emotional decisions are bad decisions when it comes to poker. Well, bad for them, anyway; good for me. |
What gets me as much as anything concerning these ill mannered , poor losers is that my play with them was the only time I was ever lucky at Poker in Korea. And these games were always on the low buck side.
I lost a three times what I won there at an Itaewon bar sometime after playing with this bunch.
I don't get it. When busted out in Seoul, I got up and walked away and never said a word.
Isn't that the way it is supposed to be? |

No, you were supposed stand quickly, throw the table over, and while waving your six-shooter in his face proclaim he's cheating and unless he's a yella-bellied coward, the two of you have to settle things tomorra at high noon. |

| maybe i missed it, but did you have to show them your hand in this situation, i.e. did they fold? either way, it's obviously their own fault for assuming that anyone would play a certain hand in a certain way. poker is all about bluffing, and if their strategies are so set in stone, then they have dumb strategies. you might need new friends, but don't burn any bridges with these douchebags before taking some more of their money! |

I find cards a bit odd. Nobody calls you an idiot for playing chess poorly. Yet a lot of people assume your ability in whatever card game is a direct reflection of your intelligence somehow.
Cards are stupid and too many people take card games too seriously. |

| It does suck playing guys who bet with nothing and pick up cards on the turn or the river. That can get fustrating if they keep getting lucky on stupid bets. I know that makes many pro players pissed off. |

| then i suggest playing a game with little to no luck involved, like chess or go. if you're not taking into account the possibility that someone is hanging in the hand hoping to get lucky, then you should probably hold off on quitting your day job. and if their strategy works so well, why not use it? |

True. And there is no use in getting upset about the latter as the odds will catch up with you and the former will come out ahead. Those that get upset are in between and haven't figured that out yet. |

Screw 'em. It is apparent that they were completely ill-prepared to play against someone that actually knows how. If they got pissed that you weren't playing their way, and you won, then maybe it's time the re-evaluate the way that they play.

Ah poker, the game where even the winers are losers. |

For sure. I was watching a western here in the states "winchester 73" ( 1873 ) I imagine with Jim Stewart which had some famous people.
In this movie , a guy , who I will call Glen lost his money but in this case guns rules the day. In this era , the Daejeon Brick House mentalilty would have not only lost the hand but their life.
I grew up in a small town in the midwest where we took our loses as men. ( boys)
I would not have expected these desparados to do anything but what they did.
But the whiners in Daejeon will forever make me ashamed of being a man. ( but I am not sure if "Glen would have preferred men or women) |

Haha, this is pretty much my strategy. My rationale is, the odds of picking something up on the river are better than the odds on slot machines. Also, if people think you are a retard they will underestimate you when you actually play a hand. |
