Can a foreigner only have a single phone? I was told that all phones are tied to the owners ID, and foreigners can only have one while Koreans can have an infinite number.
How many months must be remaining on a one year E-visa for them to give you a phone? |

I've heard that before but not sure if it's a law, though. Some banks won't give foreigners international ATM cards because they say there's a law against doing so but, there's no law that they can show you, it's the banks policy. So, it may be trure or it may just be the cell services policy. |

I was trying to get a 2nd phone for business purposes. In other words, I don't want students calling me at night or on weekends. My work visa also expires on March 1st, so I was told no for two reasons. This was LG btw. |

Just go to a different company, and dont tell them about the first. See if that works.

When I got my Show phone on a plan, I still had my LG mobile also on a plan and that posed no problems (different numbers). Don't point out that you have another mobile phone and shop around, you may need to try a different company though. |

My understanding is that you can't have two phones with the same company.
I have had two phones at the same time with both SK and LG. I did not have any problems. |

Had the identical experience.
Tried to get a 2nd phone. I wanted to get a contract phone and they said it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to keep my number, so I thought getting a 2nd phone would be the best option. First place (LG) asked to see my ARC, I had 5 months and some change left on my visa. They said 6months left on visa minimum. No dice.
Went to SK, everything was going peachy (the 6month minimum didn't seem to be an issue) When they checked on the system, they saw that I had another phone. They said I had to cancel that phone as foreigners couldn't have 2 phones. Argued for a bit, went to the store across the street and asked them if I was able to have 2 phones (didn't want to do the whole dance and waste more time only to get stuck at this point) and they said no. Went back to the original store and asked if it was possible to transfer the ownership of my Pay as you go phone to my GF (korean). They said it wasn't possible. I left.
There were no language issues here as my GF did ALL the talking. The first guys (LG) may have been being difficult but the SK guy invested a good hour of his time into this, and had a contract +phone sale lined up, so I doubt he was throwing his time and commission away just to screw the foriegner. I'm sure if he knew how to make it work, he would have. (This is not saying that it is impossible, just that it was in his best interest to do so). |

LG recently changed that from 6 months to 3 months remaining minimum requirement (I guess to accommodate students), I have a copy of their new documents here. |

I have 2 phones with LG. The first phone is on a monthly plan. For the second phone, after they checked my ARC they said I couldn't have a second phone on a monthly plan, but they were able to set me up with a prepaid phone with no problems. |

just when you think you've heard it all
what if you have children and want to give them a phone - it'd be in the parents' name - does that count?
and like one poster said - maybe you want one for business, one for personal - jees - maybe I want 3 phones - what business is it of ANYBODY'S why???
the ultimate irony here is how Ks would make laws/regulations (whatever it is at play here) that hurt their business/economy/reputation and they are so f*cking OBLIVIOUS to how stupid this is!! |
