If you dont have a bank account here in Korea yet? Will the banks still offer WU or wire transfers without it?

The first few times you need your pay stub as you can only send home an amount equal to your pay. At least that's what I was told.

my first job in Seoul paid us in cash ( sketchy, eh?? ). The local KEB bank would tranfer it to other countries without a bank account. You needed a pay slip (even if it was a print out on some scrap paper from your school), your ARC card and your passport. The fees were about 18000 won to send and then your bank will charge you something to receive it.

hope that helps.

I am down here in Ulsan. Why don't you just go open up a bank account. You can do it fairly easily. The KEB in Dong-gu will take you no time at all. I told them that I wanted the ability to transfer money home through the internet and provided the appropriate banking information. The cost is 7,000 won I think. My Schwab account doesn't charge any incoming fee.

I didn't need anything but my passport at the KB in Itaewon. I went upstairs where they do the Western Union stuff, and thought that was how I was going to have to send it, and she just filled out the information for a regular bank transfer. I gave her cash in won, and she initiated the transfer. I didn't have an account, an ARC card (only got that a few days ago) or a pay receipt of any kind.
