Does anyone know of a good venue for live bands in Suwon?

Go to Suwon Station, get on the subway headed north, get off at Sindorim and transfer to line 2 heading north, and get off at Hongik University Station. It only takes about an hour.

Realistically, that's probably your best option.

Thanks Mr Crowly I'll have a look for it.

As for the other responses just to confirm, I'm trying to find live music venues in suwon. I'm aware of the venues in Hongdae, but I'm not very familar with Suwon.

That's because there are next to none. Anyone who starts a band in Suwon will be going up to Seoul for shows.

There is really no live music community in Korea outside of Seoul, unless you count small basement shows in Cheongju, followed by Busan, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Daegu.

Also, isn't it illegal for businesses to stay open after 3 in the afternoon in Suwon? Just try to find a grocery store open all night. It's a really hick town.

But it sure takes a lot more than an hour to get to Hongdae. Why do people keep saying one hour? It's more like two, if everything goes just right.

But the open mic idea sounds great! If I see a really hairy guy named Jim, I'll say hello Wink

I used to live near Sunkyunkwan University, not far from the subway station. It took pretty well exactly one hour. From Suwon Station it wouldn't be more than a five-minute difference. As long as you're close to the subway, you're fine.

Really? That's good to hear. What bands are there? I only know of about three or four, and none of them can pull much of an audience.

It depends where you live in Suwon, but you can get to Hongdae in about an hour and 15 minutes if all goes well (although not at the moment).

I live near the World Cup Stadium and take a 700X bus to Sadang station - takes about 30-35 minutes normally. There is also a bus that you can take from Suwon Station to Sadang that is much quicker than taking the subway, and that takes about 30 minutes. Then you just take the green line from Sadang around to Hongik about 30 - 40 minutes.
If you live somewhere like Yeongtong-gu then yes, you're looking at closer to 2 hours to get to Hongdae.

However, at the moment there are some sort of roadworks on the highway that the buses use to get from Suwon to Sadang - which means the buses take closer to an hour to get there. Last weekend they seemed like they were almost finished, but who knows. I should imagine that by January they'll be finished and things will be back to normal.

In a little bar close to Paldalmun? Smile

I'll probably go on Saturday. I was there last weekend. Had a good time.

i'm not familiar with too many busan bands, but ol'55s near kyeongseong university is a pretty rockin (small) venue. there's a few more rock bars near busan university that i've heard are pretty good, but have never gone to.
