|
|
Hey guys,
I want to get something to check my emails on the train to and from work. (I haven't actually tried on my cell, but I think it would be too frustrating to start)
Do they have Blackberry-type things in Seoul? If so does the cell phone service availability on the subway work for them. Also, can I even check my emails on a blackberry? Cost for accessing websites (I guess mainly hotmail/yahoo/gmail).
Or, what about the netbook computers, can you find them here? Can one access the web via the cell phone service on the subway?
Thanks alot for any info,

i dont think you can get a blackberry here. actually i think you can get one model, BUT its a really old one, and its apparently only available to corporate clients.
you can get a windows mobile smartphone like the htc touch dual or the newly released samsung t*omnia. they will be able to give you push email. you can probably get a data plan too so you can log in and check your email anywhere that you can get a cell signal.
the t*omnia looks pretty sweet. a nice big screen and you can even surf the web using the opera browser...even has wifi! |

I think there's some sort of city wide wifi network called Wibro. I was looking at it for my iPod touch but I don't think they're supported. They do list some PDA's on their site thought...
Here's the link : http://www.wibro.or.kr/new/overview01.jsp |

Wibro with a netbook, notebook or a UMPC.
Works a treat on the subway. |

Does WIBRO charge a per-minute rate in addition to the base rate for Netbook use with the dongle? I saw two prices:
1. 10,000 a month for 1 gig of download (and upload, I'm assuming, but may be wrong)
2. 19,800 a month for maybe 30 or 40 gig
The thing is, they also had some per-minute rates, but I couldn't figure out if that meant extra charged over and above the gig limit, or for every minute? |

All I can say is I've never paid more than 19800. I surf on Wibro for 2-3 hours a day.
Even if there is a cap, I can't see anyone reaching it. Not if you have the net at home. |

One-Way, surfing 2 to 3 hours per day, do you have any idea what amount is your average download for a month? I'm wondering if I could get by with 1 gig or not, if I'm only using the wibro on the subway going to work? |

No idea. But I rarely, if ever, download stuff. If I want to download I do it at home. I just check Daves, and surf the net looking for stuff to read/buy.
A lot depends on the sites you visit. If it's email and Daves no problem. If it's full video porn and pic heavy sites then you might ping the limit.
I'd pay the extra for piece of mind myself. |
