Are ipods really that easy to use? My first mp3 player was one that the computer recognized as mass storage and just allowed you to drag and drop your songs in. In fact, if your songs were already in folders, you could drag and drop the folders and they would remain in those folders (like playlists) in the mp3. Do ipods allow you to drag and drop?
My impression of ipods is that they are easy if you use itunes and just let it sync your computer library automatically.

I have owned a number of mp3 players of different brands. I am not an iPod fanboi, though my last two players were iPods. I am stuck with iPods because of my capacity requirements.

If you are non-technical they are easy to use, but with any new iPods, it is hard to go past using iTunes, though other solutions do exist, such as using Foobar, or a couple of other computer based players.

I would personally prefer filetree based browsing, but the market seems to be moving away from this, in part to allay the concerns of the RIAA.

If you can use iTunes, iPods are very easy to use. There is one trap for new players though, and that is that iTunes by default rips CDs to .aac, and still not many players use this format, leaving you trapped in iPods marketing grip. If you make iTunes rip CDs to mp3 it uses a bundled old version of the mp3 codec, so you get less quality for the same filesize.

Best is to use a quality free ripping program like EAC, and supply it with the latest LAME mp3 codec, then show iTunes where those songs are.
