No, I am not thinking of quitting. I just want to know what the immigration rules are exactly. We all know about letters of releases.
Do you have to get a letter of release of you don't want to work at a place anymore if you hate that job? Could you do a midnight run and easily come back or not if you have a legitimate reason for doing so?
What's the story exactly? I thought if you haven't finished nine months you have to go back to your home country. What's the real deal in Korea? If you do a midnight run, would you need a new background check? I would assume you would. Is your boss required to give you a letter of release if you don't want to work at his hagwon? |

I am just trying to satisfy my curiousity, because I had a debate about this. Actually, a friend did quit, but his case is different, because they were trying to make him move to another building and transfer, and he didn't want, and he wanted to be released and his visa is being cancelled, but that's a different situation. Can an employer refuse to give you a letter? |

You don't need the letter any more.
You don't need to go back to your home country for any reason.
Midnight runs are still frowned on. |

So, you don't need to do a midnight run to get out of a contract? What about blacklisting? I knew a guy who just refused to show up at my former, crappy hagwon. Did he just need to tell immigration he simply didn't want to work there anymore and transfer to another place?
In 2007, a friend of mine had to do a midnight run, because her boss wouldn't release her and go to immigration with her. Based on my recent experience with immigration, this doesn't make sense. |
