I don't know how anyone can take this question seriously and then not answer with someone who's playing on their team. I think Iginla should captain our 2010 team as well (if Sakic retires), but how could I pick him as my favorite NHLer? ForceOne - what's up with you? VanIslander - Alfredsson? Jeez you guys...

DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!

Jagr - easily in the top 5 forwards of the last 10 years. Does even try and hes still deadly. Does what he wants, when he wants, if the coach doesnt agree with Jagr hes going to get fired, basic.

Avery- good for the game, brings attention to it. Doesnt give shit interviews like all other athletes. " It was a tough game, we played hard and get got the 2 points, we will look to build on that for the next game" blah blah blah youre all boring as shit. Avery is the man, spices it up and has some skills.

Kovalev - hes just dirty with the puck and can put it anywhere

Passaglia will always be the man in Vancouver sports Wink Long Live Lui !

Thomas Gradin, miss him too.

Don't like the direction the Canucks have gone in the last decade, ever since they hired Keenan then Crawford the only highlights for me has been Mattias Ohlund and Matt Cooke, gawd I hated Burtuzzi, didn't fully appreciate Naslund nor cared for any centers on the club, mildly moved by Henrik Sedin, and basically thought Luongo was lipstick on the pig. The Canucks are pretenders at the moment, gawd do I miss the Quinn days, even Burke I respected though disagreed with. Now? Rolling Eyes I am not a fan. I will still be happy every game they win, but I'm a fan of hockey first and foremost, and the present Canucks team is sad, sad, sad. Every other team in their division can go to hell though, and I'd be smilin'

Luckily I've been a Sharks fan since their early days playoff upset of the Red Wings, thanks in large part to ex-Canuck Larionov, whom Detroit soon after stole away. With Rob Blake and Dan Boyle added to the blueline, the Sharks transition game, powerplay and ability to keep pucks in deep off the forecheck is incredible. I don't watch Sharks-Canucks games, cuz the NHL doesn't have ties any more. Very Happy

I don't follow that logic. Actually, I don't follow any logic, because I'm an Islanders fan. My all-time favourites, Lafontaine and Trottier, have been out of the picture for a long time...so, I'm stoked to see guys play well pretty much anywhere.

Re: Iginla...I always hated the Flames for some stupid reason, but I would be happy as hell to have Iginla captain the Olympic team. He's one of the most complete players in the game today, if not THE most.

I can't like Iginla because he's a Flame. Never liked a player while on the Calgary roster. Not one. Liked Nieuwendyk when he was a Dallas Star, but even then took a couple of years to get the Flame off of his identity. Of course, as a longtime Canucks and somewhat Oilers fan, I cannot fathom thinking anything good about cow town. May the franchise fold or move to Oklahoma City. Please.

I became a bit of an Isles fan when they had ex-Canucks Peca and Linden, got to like Witt, Hill, DP, Satan and Park, and finally gave up on them when they fired Ted Nolan. It was easy to cheer for the Isles since I already didn't like New Jersey and NYR.

These three are your fav players? You MUST be a Rangers fan. There's no other explaining it.

I've always liked the hard-nosed, play-like-your-job-depends-on-it, third-line grinders.

As a diehard Habs fan growing up, I really liked Doug Jarvis, Ryan Walter, Bob Gainey, Mike McPhee, Keith Acton, Chris Nilan, Brian Skrudland, and Mike Keane, among others.

Nowadays, I like two-way players that play a complete game, guys like Saku Koivu, Shane Doan, Mike Peca, Iginla, Rick Nash, Simon Gane, Alex Burrows, and Mike Richards.

Notable mentions from the past (especially bolded):

Brian Propp
Chris Chelios (still going...)
Butch Goring
Harold Snepps
Mike Green
Craig Ludwig
Mark Napier
Dale Hawerchuk
Kevin Dineen
Tim Kerr
Murray Craven
Dave Poulin
Tony Tanti
Doug Lidster
Jim Peplinski (one of the cooler hocky names)
Esa Tikkanen
Charlie Huddy
Glenn Anderson (Mr. Clutch)
Rod Langway
Lou Franceschetti
Kevin Hatcher
Ron Duguay
Denis Potvin
Pat Verbeek
Kirk Muller
Walt Poddubny (another great hocky name)
Jimmy Carson
Bernie Nichols
Bob Probert
Adam Oates
Gerard Gallant
Ed Olczyk
Steve Larmer
Brian Bellows
Dino Ciccarelli
Normand Rochefort
Rick Middleton
Steve Kasper
Bobby Smith
Shane Corson

Here's a youtuber explaing why Clark Gilles was always a favourite as well.

Pity about the hyper-lame tunes...

And here's a funny clip of Pat LaFontaine making defenders look dumb and weak. Love that Buffalo announcer!

i've been a canucks fan for a long time but i can't say i like man of the players on the team. One reason is because I don't get to watch many of the games so I am not very familiar with the players. I remember Quin liked big players and in 94 the canucks were the biggest team in the league. And that was with Ronning on the roster. although I am happy that the sedins are fairly consistent, i don't like their style. Raymond seems to be speedy and I like that. The one thing that has surprised me is that Ohlund has dropped the gloves at least twice this year. He must have been in a bit of a bad mood. I've always liked him and Salo. Never liked Naslund and was starting to like burtuzzi up until the Moore incident. What an idiot that guy is. He was useless on the powerplay because he would always knock someone over and get a penalty. I hated that guy.

Some good players:

Tootoo
Ruutu
Cheechoo
Miroslav Satan
Zarley Zalapski
Tony Twist
Ron Tugnutt

Beyond that, though, I'm a Canucks fan.

I find it hilarious that there are so many (probably self-proclaimed) hockey experts out there that all of you are choosing players like;

Zarley Zalapski, Sergio Momesso, Cliff Ronning, Mike Fisher, etc.
Why not throw in Mike Krushelnisky, Todd Gill and Benoit Brunet for good measure.

What about players like Al MacInnis? Martin Brodeur?, Doug Gilmour?

Or great players of today, Crosby? Semin? Niedermeyer?, Kane?, Gagne? Iggy was mentioned.

I guess being a Leafs fan, I have no bias. Our team has sucked for so long that we have no choice but to notice all of the other good players around the league.

The rest of you need to get over your Sedin, Alfie, Cliff Ronning love affairs and cheer for good players. Very Happy

this thread is about one's fav players, not who is the greatest Rolling Eyes of course some of the greats are among our favs, some aren't. doesn't mean we don't appreciate those we don't mention.

Bagpipes11 wrote:

Krushelniski played an intense to the wall style I liked but by no means my fav. There was a time when Brunet was the only Hab I liked (Rivet a bit too), during the Turgeon (ugh), Savage (ugh), Desjardins (ugh) days. Yeah Damphousse was talented he just was by no means my fav.

Quote:

I almost put McInnis on my honorable mention list but the only time I came close to calling him my favourite was during the Pronger-McInnis one-two punch days when either one was always on the ice, a duo I respected the hell out of on a team I didn't like, Prongs a fav of mine, Al simply a guy I respected a lot.

Brodeur is the most overrated goalie I've every seen (except perhaps Cujo). If he played his career in Nashville or Florida he'd have Khabibulin or Kolzig type career numbers. A good goalie, for sure, who found himself on a defensively excellent team. No, I am not a big fan of his.

Are these your favs? Kane was mentioned by me as was Ovechkin as a fav HM. I do think Malkin is incredible but I never cheer for that team, so I merely appreciate his play, don't "cheer" for him.

Laughing There is no fan more biased than a Leafs fan! Admit it, your fav players are Leafs.

You don't think Alfredsson is a good player? See?! The Leaf bias.

The least talented player I ever cheered for, hmmm,... probably Tootoo Very Happy Fun to watch!

I never claimed to be a hockey expert. When he was on the canucks Ronning was one of my favourite players. He was small and a little speedy. I'm not such a big guy myself so I felt a bit of a connection with him. Even though he was small he could create room around him so he could set someone for a goal. Also he was a skilled player. You have to be if you are that small and stay in the NHL for any length of time.

Dude, my picks are far superior to yours. Here's more:

Radek Bonk
Haaken Loob
Rick Zombo

Darren Puppa
Harry Dick
Corey Pecker

Semin?

Now that's something we could agree on.
