I'm back home in Canada now, and I'm pretty shocked at the capping going on here. The two big isp companies, Bell and Rogers, have caps between 20~60GB!! That's a whole lot better than 150~250GB... Crying or Very sad

Do you actually think these ISPs will lower prices for their cut in levels of service (amount of bandwidth available)?????
Bandwith restrictions mean people are paying the same for less and that's just bad business and consumers should be pissed off about it.

Since most people won't be affected by this, it's hard to see why they should be worried about it. Since most of the people that are affected, are affected due to a large amount of illegal downloading it's hard to see how they can rightfully complain.

If you are one of the 90% of people not downloading 40 DVDs a month then you aren't paying the same for less, you're avoiding having to pay more to upgrade the network to support the few people who use too much. That's how most will look at it.

As soon as a large amount of people are downloading 100GB a month, we'll see the caps raised.

In places like NZ, we've always had data caps due to the large cost of sending data over the undersea cables to such a small country.

Haha! "Better returns for stockholders"??? The main goal of the telecoms is to make bigger profits nothing more than that. When the tech sector of the stock market crashed in the early 2000's, the telecoms left their stockholders high and dry. Laughing

Please explain to me how bigger profits don't equate to higher stock prices in the long run. The markets crashed because people valued the future of a lot of Internet companies at ridiculous levels. If profits had met these unrealistic expectations there never would have been a crash.

Consumers should be able to do whatever the f.uck they want with the bandwidth they buy from the ISPs. The telecoms better reduce their prices if they reduce their levels of service. I'm willing to bet these greedy telecoms won't.

It's not what you do with it; it's how much you use. They're better off not having a customer who uses ten times more than other customers but pays the same. You can cry about it, but the majority of people just won't care. And when they do the caps will be raised, as soon as it's profitable to do so.

You seem to forget that these companies are businesses.
