I plan to be in Seoul within the next 2 weeks and would like a GPS navigator which I can carry around with me. I would like one with an earphone socket so that I don't disturb other people around me. I have a terrible sense of direction and having directions spoken to me while I walk around the streets of seoul would be ideal. I have heard that Garmin and Tom Tom are great. In Korea do they come with free maps? How much should I expect to pay and what is the best place to buy one?

Do you know any Korean?

I would suggest you get the Inavi UZ PNS. It's portable and cheap:

if you want it in english you'll have to pay the big bucks.

google search garmin in south korea. there's a shop somewhere south of the eulijro3 station that sells american garmin hand held units that you can have loaded up with english korean street maps for the whole country.
'bout 400kw for the unit, another 110kw for the map.

i've got the street map and topo map for my garmin i brougth with me and they're great. if you have to buy a new unit though... well it becomes a lot less of a deal.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I dont know much Korean. I have taken a 50 hour crash course but that's not enough for me to understand directions given to me in Korean at natural speed. I will keep working on it though

Thanks.

I have seen garmin gps navigators available on ebay in the uk for about 110 pounds. So perhaps I will be better off buying one before coming to Korea.
