I just wanted to ask...why does the majority of you hate korean food so much? Korean food is effin awesome and its a known fact. Some people here are complaining about "oh the food sucks, its all covered in mayonnaise" and crap like that. Well first of all, why do u even eat that stuff in the first place? that kind of food is the kind of stuff you usually get for free as a side dish. Why dont you all eat bulgogi or galbi? what about samgyupsal or jajangmyun? jjambong, bibimbop? seriously...Korean food is great and you all are complaining about food thats not even popular here. Forreal, start eating REAL korean food and then start talking. To top it all off, korean food is freakin cheap as hell over here! A bowl of jajangmyun for 4,000 won?? a bowl of jajangmyun in the states is about 8 bucks! Also...how can someone complain about rice?? Theres a reason why so many asians eat rice everyday because its so damn good! It taste great with anything. Its like an asian telling a white man "Potatoes suck." Eating meats without rice is so plain. I can never enjoy any type of meat without rice. Rice is KEY!
I just wanted to write something about this because people on this forum are so damn picky and complain about the smallest things in the world. But if you like Korean food...kudos to you. |

Women usually are picky eaters too. Drives me up the wall. Kimbap for 1000, can't beat it. |

I don't "Hate" Korean food, I hate the lack of options. And there are SOME Korean foods that I don't like, but that seems to be a capital offense here. I "Hate" the fact that I am constantly pressured to eat things that I "Don't like." I "Hate" the fact that when I have to go out on one of those "Teachers dinners" I have NO SAY in the kinds of foods that are served. I "Hate" that I am treated like a CHILD and told to eat whatever is put in front of me.... |

Rice 3x / day
Vegetables must be boiled until soggy
Everything over salted
Red pepper paste the only flavoring apart from salt
Generally far too much carbohydrate eg. rice, pasta and potato in one meal
Protein is served at a minimum
That being said I like most Korean food if I'm eating out. |

Korean food is excellent. The real problem is that far too many people seem to forget that they are in a foreign country and expect the cuisine to be the same as it was back in South Dakota. |

Okay I am sorry if this comes off as being racist, discriminatory or anything else. This is solely my opinion on this specific subject and shouldn't be taken as an overall insult of Korean culture. Furthermore not to say that the deep-fried western culture is the epitomny of goodness (cus its not) but it has something Korean food doesn't.
For me Korean food, not all, but the majority (such as the stuff I get fed at my school), can be summarised in one simple word: "Peasant"
What I mean is that it tends to lack a certain amount of refinement. Additionally any peasant can make anything Korean. There is no need for hightech devices or specialised instruments. Unlike most western food which requires a whole lot of specific methods and tools to make the wide variety of cuisines. (yes deep frying isnt very complicated, but I'd like to see a peasant with a deep fryer)
For me Korean food is just lacking that extra bit of refinement. What I also mean by this is they seem to just throw everything and anything together. This normally includes every section of (minus the skin of course) vegetables, fruits and meats. I can understand the use of bones and the like for stews, but bloody-ell take them out before mixing the broth with everything else. Bones in soup is absolutely disgusting!!! There is nothing worse than sifting through bones in a stew, soup or some other dish that has meat. Again it lacks that refinement. the only exception to the bone rule would be if there is a sizeable chunk of meat attatched to it, which I have yet to see here. Its almost like they just threw the entire chicken into the pot mashed it up, stirred in everything else and then served it.
Now I like certain things like korean bbq, and bulgogi dishes, but when it comes down to many of their large mixed dishes or soups, I nearly throw up every time. |

One doesn't need a deep-fryer to fry food. You need a pot a heat source and a bottle of oil. Also don't usually need all the high tech instruments we're told we must have to make certain food. Don't give western food too much credit. |
