Hi, to any SMOE teachers. The forum we use to share our materials seems to be down. Any news on when it will be back?
Cheers |

Asked ddeubel, he's the one in charge of the site I think?? Here's what he said.
Me: what's up with smoeworld.com?? Is it going to be online soon??
ddeubel: craig - don't know a thing. I started a network for smoe teachers at http://smoeteachers.ning.com/, if you get teachers together , use it. I'll send details of pw etc...
So what I get from this is what??? Really liked the layout of smoeworld, hope it comes back, but from his message doesn't sound good. |

I think it's a different David, Carduling.
The sight's just down at the moment. Another Seoul-based forum (seoulsounds) is also down.
Might have been using the same server? That's my guess. |

DDeubel has his own site and has nothing to do with the one for SMOE you are talking about. DDeubel's is: eflclassroom.ning.com
Go to this one for the meantime: http://38.98.127.133/user/gepikhsms
It's got National Curriculum lesson materials, powerpoints, etc. and also stuff for summer/winter camps. |

He is not in charge of the site, Superdave is (I think that's his name on here) (The one with the big superman avatar).
I have not heard anything yet either and am thinking nothing will get done about it until the weekend when Dave has time. I could be wrong about this too though as I have not contacted him. |

Superdave's website had an update yesterday.
Bascailly, he had to switch servers. Not just smoeworld, but all his other websites/blogs have to move too.
Jsut be patient and it'll be up as soon as he can. From the looks of it, he's putting up each website at a time and making sure there aren't any bugs. Smoeworld is the largest and will take the most time. |

It's been down all week with a message about server problems. I'm sure we haven't been infiltrated....... lol
I miss it too, it's a very useful site I agree.
When you've got time SuperDave, get us back into the warmth ta |

Yes, just to be clear. I've nothing to do with the site - having been banned. For what reason, I've no idea. Go figure - someone helping teachers and who works for SMOE is banned. Says a lot. Many others of the same boat. I did contribute much if not most of the teaching content there the first months, to get it going. LOL - maybe he did find someone to buy it after all
The site I mentioned is one I set up for SMOE teachers. http://smoeteachers.ning.com If there is a mildly tech saavy person, they can take it over and do anything they want with it (banner, design, widgets etc....). Much better technology for making a social network. Seeing I do work with Ning, I probably could get the ads pulled for free. I"m way to busy for this but if anyone is interested, send me a PM and I'll send the ID/PW for the admin...
I do find it bizarre, very bizarre that in this day and age there would be anything but a few hours delay to transfer servers (shouldn't be any really). It isn't a big deal to do, especially with a dinosaur like phpBB. Makes me wonder....
Cheers,
DD

Me thinks DD says untruths. You have no idea why you were removed from the site?
Well, lets just say that information that was posted on the site concerning operations of the SMOE program, communication and operational procedures of SMOE was passed onto certain powers of SMOE. At that time there was not many native english teachers who had open, and direct communication with SMOE on a regular basis. But there was a choice that many had in mind as to who could have told them what was being posted. There was really only one that had such a strong, close relationship with SMOE.
What was their name again? Slipped my mind But as I understand it that person denied ever doing such a thing. So there is no proof.
The site is a closed community for those reasons. Where, as a niche group we want to openly talk with fellow SMOE teachers about issues that affect each of us. We were hoping that this information would be confidential as SMOE teachers working in public schools are so isolated from information and communication about their positions. I guess we were wrong.

Then why do you use this site which is the same dinosaur? Oh thats right. For your own self interest, to advertise your site at every chance you get. To become an international powerbroker of esl websites

Like this chap said it has developed and grown into such a helpful site for SMOE Native teachers. It has grown a lot since you were removed from the site for reasons that.... whoops. So why degrade something that you now know nothing about but sooooooo many people find useful to their teaching profession?
Aha. Are you on a power trip to become an international esl conglomerate site? Or are you a bitter old man still living in the past with some sought of personal conflict? I suppose we will never know.
Yes, your site is helpful to many. I won't degrade it. As I won't degrade eslcafe because it is also helpful to so many people.
I think you need to grow up and just get over you personal demons of the past.
BTW Hope the footprints workshop last Saturday went well! |

What is this gestapo stuff??? I had no talks EVER to anyone connected to SMOE about smoworld. NEVER. So you are just off base. I did nothing on the site to warrant being banned other than to give members info. / content and to speak my mind about members being able to say what they wanted good or bad about SMOE.
I think there is a BIG need for a network for SMOE teachers. That's why I took the time and effort to sign up teachers at the orientation for Smoeworld. Took lots of time, inputting into excel , formatting the list to csv etc.... Why would I do that if I had anything against the site? I've invited many teachers to the site, when I was able. Each and every one.
As I've stated many times here -- my beef is that the site does not allow free expression of all SMOE teachers. Further, it could be closed at any time, sold , bought and junked. There is proof that this is possible.
All your other allegations about "taking over the esl world" etc.... are just something I let slide off me. I see something done poorly and try to do it better - that's all.

I've been a member here since long before you were teaching. (much longer on the international board). I need not apologize for participating here. However I do speak up about the limitations here and will do so about smoeworld or whatever place. Doesn't mean I don't think they shouldn't exist -- just that, as I stated above, they could serve teachers better....
All in all, I really think you should rethink your allegations. Really sick to suggest I was distributing private info. etc....... I never speak to the powers that be at SMOE other than formally and about specific concerns. smoeworld had no part of anything in that regard.
To end on a positive note -- YES, the workshop was awesome and we kept it very teacher friendly, practical. Thanks to all who attended.

ddeubel, sorry for bringing up your name, don't know why I thought it was you in charge of the site... Anyways if smoeworld doesn't come back it would be nice for the SMOE teachers to have a private place to share ideas. |
