|
|
I seem to be the only foreign teacher in my area who will be teaching 3 camps this recess. One mandatory one from the ed dep't and one for each of my school. That pretty much covers the ENTIRE recess.
All of the other PS teachers in the area will get 2-3 weeks off, and are currently planning a trip to Japan.
Luck of the draw? What about all of you? |

Seemes a bit odd that you will not have any free time. Surely you can request to use some of your official vacation time?
As many will tell you, camps/vacation (official and extra) etc all depends on the area you work in and the individual school within it. |

It depends upon the school and the schedule. When I worked at a public school in Incheon I got 14 days vacation a year. During the winter break, on the days I didn't have vacation schedule, I had to sit there in my classroom.
The only bright side is I had a computer and was mostly left alone to watch movies and nap. |

Yeah, during the winter break I am taking 7 of my vacation days and then I am teaching the rest of the time. Only until noon though, so that's cool at least. I'm just burned up because most of the other local teachers teach at 3 schools and NONE of their schools are making ANY of them do a thing, and BOTH of my schools are putting me to work. What are the odds? 2 schools out of 12 doing camps and they are both the fine establishments that employ yours truly.
Jealousy's a bitch, and I never did have the greatest luck. Can't really complain overall. |

I don't know which is worse, people who have to work during the breaks or the ones who have all this time off and nothing to do. If they leave Korea, they will be paying a lot. It's hardly worth it.
Thems the breaks I guess. |

Hardly worth it? Even if you're stuck in Korea during the vacation period, there are a ton of things to do. I plan to study Korean and snowboard 3-4 times a week. |

I work at a private girl's high school in Daegu. My school's "official" winter break starts on the 31st December and they come back on the 6th February (or rather the teachers do, the students are in school working right through). In that time I have 2 elementary school camps, one week each (a total of 10 days) and two weeks off (neither week off includes my contract holiday, which my handler tells me is still in the bank).
I'm grateful, at the Hogwan I had 35+ classes a week and got no holiday, at my school I only work 15 classes and have to prepare one lesson plan a week. Time off is a bonus. |

I'm taking 10 of my official vacation days in January and, with the discretion days we get from the Principal, I should be off for 36 out of 41 days between 24th December and 3rd February.
I only teach 8 - 12 in the morning during February as well, and then get to go home for the rest of the day.
I literally have no idea what I'm going to do with so much time - this isn't a boast, I mean I find it difficult enough to fill my weekends in Korea sometimes, lord knows how I'm going to fill whole weeks of nothing. |

If youre only allowed to take 7 days then its a bummer but thats what happens.
I had to warm a seat last winter for 2 months...this winter I get from Dec 23rd - Feb/March off. They didnt give me a winter schedule thank god! though i paid the price last year. |

I'll be teaching for about 5 weeks I think, 9.10am-12.20pm. I'll also be seat warming until 4.40pm everyday.
I get 7 working days off for vacation, but including Dec 25th, Jan 1st and weekends the total time off work will come to 11 consecutive days.
I look forward to camp, because I can just relax and take my time. At least I won't be spending any money during that time! |
