|
|
We got our Alien cards at the Suwon Immigration office when we arrived, they're our local office. However we do need to extend our E2's since we won't leave the exact day we finish teaching. I have the e-tickets and so forth which I need to ask for the extension.
Do I have to go to the Suwon office? Or can I do it in Seoul? Ironically enough it's easier for me to get into Seoul and go to the Mokdong office than it is to get into Suwon. But if I must I will go to Suwon.
Any insight? |

If its just a few days difference like mine, it's not worth the hassle of getting the extension. Ask whoever is in charge to phone immigration, ask what is involved in getting a 2 day extension and they'll end up releasing you early.
Dunno about the offices, sorry. Ask you school to make the call? |

Thanks for the reply, but I do know what is needed, it's not a difficult process and it has to be done as far as I understand. I don't want to risk being held up at passport control and being handed a fine for over staying my visa. I recommend you get it sorted out as well. I'm not staying longer to work I'm staying longer to sort out my affairs because we're not coming back.
Question still stands, any takers? |

You have to go to the immigration office that is responsible for your area. If you got your ARC in Suwon, then odds are you need to go there to get the extension.
If you are extending in order to work, you need to go to the office with paperwork from your school. If you are extending to pack stuff up and catch a plane, you can do it by email/fax

This should have the info.
If you extend using the plane ticket, you are not legally allowed to work. If you extend to work, it will cost 30,000 won. |

| I have a similar problem. My visa ends on May 22nd, but my last day of work is May 25th. How do I fix that? |

Unless things have changed, you should have a 14 day period in which to leave the country before you're considered "overstaying." |

This is absolutely not true.
To the best of my knowledge, this has never been true.
In the past, if your visa was cancelled early (i.e., you quit or were fired), you were given an exit order that allowed you 14 days to leave. Apparently this grace period has now been extended to 30 days.
But there is not, nor has there ever been, a grace period at the end of the visa. You must exit the country by midnight on the final date on your ARC. Failure to do so WILL result in hassles at passport control and may well result in a fine and difficulties on future visas. |

That only works if you have a decent boss, but if you have a real stickler for the rules or just a jerk for your boss, why would they release you early? No skin off their nose if YOU are held up at Immigration. Immigration's not going to come after them. You and YOU alone will be held responsible for missing the deadline. |
