I submitted it, they saw it and have held it for awhile. Immigration has approved my visa and I have been working for a month.

I asked for my CRC back and have been told that they have to keep it. Of course, they cannot explain why.

I will want to look for another job before this contract ends, and it is not even clear if they will be willing to return it to me at the end. It cost me over $700, so at the very least they should reimburse me for it, but what I really want is to have it back in my possession.

So is it mine or theirs?

Immigration kept my original CRC, along with my original health check. When I asked to have the originals back they told me they keep the originals. I was offered only a copy, which would be useless to me if they require it again when I renew in 4 months. I have a feeling I'll have to drop the cash on a new then even though they say it's only required to be submitted once.

My PS has mine, not immi.

I don't think they should keep it. If they do, the should pay for it.

Theoretically speaking...you shouldn't have to resubmit. Actually, it's something I've been curious lately about myself.

Sorry to jump on this thread with a question...but does anyone out there know if there is any kind of verification #, personnel department, or any type of verification notification that a foreigner can obtain to detail the time, location, and approval of those documents??

I realize the visa is issued because of these approvals...my question is that if anyone knows if there is a mechanism of verifying the existence of those documents with the appropriate agencies so that an individual would not have to go through these kinds of headaches in the future??

Anyone??

I have seen ads for Spring that say the check can not be more than 3 months old (most recently the Tec. Institute in Kwangju. So, if someone did it for a Visa for Spring 2008, and a new job says it can not be more than 3 months old, then changing positions does mean a new one for a Spring 2009 job. I wonder are places that are renewing also saying it has to be done again because it is over 3 months old? And, the place in Kwangju is only graduate programs and E-1, so it should not be required even at all. Has the system changed again?

700$? Mine was 20 bucks and I got a vulnerable sector check AND I had it notarized.

I got ripped off by a lawyer for $450 who should not have charged anything for merely letting the messenger pick it up at his office. But still, it would have run $250-300 being that I had it done from here.

The fee itself was $55 + $10 for the apostille, about $150 for the messenger to go to three offices, and FedEx was about $70.

Um mine cost 50 to have notorized and the Lawyer looked at me funny since the RCMP stamp was ON the document and the officers name and number who did it.

As ttompatz pointed out in a earlier post to renew or extend may not require a new CBC.

However for a NEW job he stated that it seems to be Immigration policy to have to re-submit a new CBC.

So even if your school gave it back at the end of the contract...you still couldn't use it for a new job if that is so. $700 worth of toilet paper is what you'd be holding in that case.

, I suppose it's not entirely out of the question that you might get lucky or someone might not notice the date...

I was at immigration today trying to renew. This is my third year renewing and this year the immigration officer said they changed things a few months ago. The rule is now that a new CRC must be in hand when you go to immigration. No negotiating. It cannot be submitted later, and a receipt of application will not work. A CRC older than 6 months is not valid either. My director flipped because the Education Office told him there were no significant changes. Thankfully immi gave the school a one month extension to try and get the CRC. I will be using the CBM Paralegal company talked about on the forum to get one here quick.

I have a question. Um, if you're here for 3 years and your passport says you're here 3 years, immigration knows you've been here 3 years, how is a criminal record check in your home country going to tell them anything they don't already know?

That was my exact question to them. And I pointed out that since the original one was issued I haven't been back to my home country. They said they had to follow the rule. :-/

Just in case it might work, I want it back.

Shouldn't it be like a diploma? They see the original, make sure it is legit, keep a copy, and return it to you.

Anyway, if they want to keep it, they should pay for it.
