The wife and I are thinking of going to Cebu, Koh Samui or Cambodia
for February. I have heard Cambodia is great if you want to indulge
and be "happy", if you get my drift.

Anyone been there? Is it a good place for herbal happiness?

It's easy in Thailand too, plus it's a much better environment than Cambodia.

Not to mention Vang Vien, Laos... probably the 'happiest' town on the face of the planet. Wink Get 'happy' and tube down the river!

1/ I've been to Thailand many times and have had some pretty
harrowing experiences with happy. So I don't know about it being
easy.

2/ Why better environment? Cambodia looks pretty cool.

Thailand is happy if you're happy w/Sangsorn buckets. Police there are not the happy types. (think US 2-3 k if you're found w/'happyness-y things'), no joke. That makes you VERY UNHAPPY very fast.

Cambodia is THE happy place, in fact check out

happyhippicambodia.com

Yeah, Laos may be happier, but you get no beach to fully enjoy the happiness Sad

I ate that happy pizza in Siem Reap 4 times and it mellowed me out and put me to bed each time; nothing all that interesting. I motoscooter dude in the old market offers some ditch swag for $20. Inside one restaurant things got a litta happier, but not much more and not nearly as much as they did in Chaing Mai, Thailand in the THC club. Chiang Mai, Thailand seems to have an out in the open public marijuana culture as there are reggae beer bars called, "Marijuana," and, "THC."

Koh Pangan in the gulf of Thailand is also quite happy and relaxed too with its' reggae beer bars on the northwest beach road such as, "Amsterdam."

I would say that Asia is not a great place for that as you're taking risks with the crazy laws on the books, but that Europe is the prime top spot for happy times.

I don't get Thailand. Dudes are openly taking drugs. Sometimes buying from the Police, and yet occasionally some poor souls get the book thrown at them.

If you pet a cat one day and kick it the next you end up with a paranoid kitty.

My old buddy in Phuket does a magic omlet, but I'm afraid I might totally freak out. Whaddya think should i trip the lite fantastic this winter vacation?

CRIMINAL PENALTIES: While in a foreign country, a U.S. citizen is subject to that country's laws and regulations, which sometimes differ significantly from those in the United States and may not afford the protections available to the individual under U.S. law. Penalties for breaking the law can be more severe than in the United States for similar offenses. Persons violating Cambodian laws, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested or imprisoned. Penalties for possession of, use of, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Cambodia are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines. Engaging in sexual conduct with children or using or disseminating child pornography in a foreign country is a crime, prosecutable in the United States. Please see our information on Criminal Penalties.

Can't quite tell if mushrooms are illegal or not.

Of course I will do more research before taking a decision.

And you? Do you know exactly which flora are illicit? Do tell.

Hey Join me, where did you find that article? I really can't believe
the US Govt tells people not to do drugs! Did you find that in your
leather bound, gold inlaid biography of Bush "The Great Statesman"
or what?

What do you think the feds are going to say? Grab a brain dude.

my travels in thailand are limited to chiang mai and bangkok. i found the happy index to be disappointingly low. my typical method is to ask a few happy-looking travellers about the situation in the area. in thailand, many people who i would expect to indulge didn't seem too interested in the conversation.

cambodia and laos were much happier, but don't be careless about it. be discreet about it unless people around you, i.e. natives, are doing it.
