Anyone have any experiences/thoughts about this?

I know many people who got through school on Aderol (spelling?). I dislike chemicals. I know enough doctors, lawyers, professors and hard working people on the good green herb to suggest using anything else.

Well, it's been given rather superficial treatment by the BBC article, wouldn't you say?

The UK Government is sufficiently concerned about them to have asked an expert group to assess their impact on medicine and their potential social impact. The Academy of Medical Sciences expert group has held workshops across Britain to find out the public's views

Well, very interesting, I'm sure, but what about what pharmacologists, psychologists and the medical community have to say....about side-effects and stuff like that?

One of these drugs, Modafinil, was developed to treat people who involuntarily fall asleep

Well, is a possible side-effect sleep reduction? That's an immediately obvious concern that the article has nothing to say on. If these drugs are "already being widely used in the US" there must presumably be some information on side-effects.

Interesting though. As a studier of Korean it'd be interesting to see what effect it has on that. I am a strong believer in that the complete elimination of tiredness (preferably via good night's sleep) stimulates the mood and intellect considerably, so I can see a strong connection between the drugs' origins and increased intellectual capacity.

honey does... because it has glucose (& fructose) that goes straight to the glycolysis/Kreb cycle/ETS pathway in your cells to produce ATP that powers your brain

I listened to a really interesting programme on BBC Radio 4 last night about Arrow Modafinil, which you can listen to (30-minutes in length) again here:

Arrow The Defeat of Sleep

The BBC programme is more revealing than the Wiki description.
Apparently, Modafinil has sales in excess of $500 Million per year in the US.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that's tried it

A lot of people I know love modafinil. However, I wasn't able to afford it back home. There's plenty of reviews of it online by smart, educated people who use it to enhance their productivity.

I wonder what the risks are of importing it here, or if it can be bought at a local pharmacy. Does anyone know any "grey market" pharmacies in Seoul, that will sell something without prescription?

Anyone who is interested in this sort of thing should look up 'nootropics' - there are a lot of studies going on right now about drugs that boost brain power/increase longevity, that sort of thing. A lot of them are available already as supplements.

Good sir, you are a teacher. Don't dangle your modifiers in front of the children.

Sorry, first grammar nazi post here, but I do love how obscene "dangling participles" and "dangling modifiers" sound.

For drugs like these the social impacts are unforseeable.

On the face of things, it seems like an obvious benefit to human kind. But thinking about it more deeply. I can see the implicatiosn of abuse and incredible changes to the school system and focus of our lives.

The other huge impact is on what happens to people who can't afford this drug. People who are already on hard times spiral further downwards as the elists climb even higher on the totem.

There's just so many potential problems that can occur. Not to mention... if intelligence is TRULY inherited, we might be doing the same thing as we did with antibotics... basically making humans weaker geneticaly as decades pass.

These are all thoughts and possibilites I'm pondering, nothing really proven or foreseeable like I said.
