|

The Wikitravel page on Seoul lists two things to be weary of when visiting the city. They are 'angry Korean men' and 'military police'.
See the link:

I guess angry Korean men could be more dangerous than ....hmmm... |

Recently there was an advisory warning Americans about Hongdae, so maybe that's it. Also back around Spectrumgate the US Embassy told Americans to be careful in the area because Koreans were harassing and attacking foreigners. |

It's well written and very readable, but I'm not as scared of Korean men as I am some men in other countries such as America and Thailand. It's extremely rare for a Korean man to confront and challenge you in a manner that can easily escalate into a fight though they are often just slightly rude and offensive to express the discomfort they feel in your presence.
It makes a good point about carrying your ID and the law surrounding MP's authority in that they can abduct you if you fail to identify.LOL |

That would be my only concern. |

You know, this happened to me several times in my first year here. I was talking to a Korean female friend on the subway once, and some drunk ajoshi chest-bumped me outright for no reason. I was spat upon by a guy in Technomart that year. Another group of guys saw me walking with a different female friend, and they started saying rude things. In every case, the men were around 40 years old.
Since then, it hasn't happened (other than the 70 year-old pervert grabbing my gochu last month).
I wonder if I was doing something more culturally offensive (in the beginning) that set these idiots off? |

Seeing as how wiki travel (or wiki anything) is user generated, i wouldn't count this particular entry as indicating a groundswell of expat experience. I spend 50% of my weekends in Hongdae/Sinchon and never have I felt the least bit of real 민족 tantrum-rage. |

Beware of facist immigration regulations, corrupt hogwan jobs and racist foreigner stalker groups. Other than that, nothing to fear here. Old drunken men go down quickly. |
