It has been doing that since 2002. |

Hanmail, Naver, Daum, and just about every other Korean email service automatically blocks emails from every other non-Korean service (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc.) or labels them as spam.
Because, you know, here is Korea. |

Yes.
I had a big problem with this throughout 2003 trying to communicate with my adult students. I gave up on emailing students in '04.
Nothing's changed eh. |

Not really news. If the person you're sending the mail too puts you on their allow list, there won't be a problem. I think having them send you an email first usually lets that happen.
Or you could get a Korean email yourself. |

No. That doesn't solve the problem.
Unless it's changed in recent years. |

Yeah, I love how any non-Korean mail is automatically trash. Good luck on that globalization thing, Korea. |

How many foreigners do you think have a Korean ID number which even ALLOWS them to sign up for a Korean e-mail address? |

I don't have a Korean ID number but have accounts with Daum (Hanmail), Naver, Cyworld and other large Korean Web sites. |

And they don't tell you that the e-mail was blocked either, so you could end up sending countless e-mails and assume you are being ignored. |

Likewise, I've never had a problem sending email to Koreans using my hotmail address.
Not to mention - tons (most?) Koreans have a hotmail/gmail/etc. account. The ones I've talked to say this problem doesn't exist. |

Hanmail blocks my email server, a local cable company in Ontario, Canada.
Yes, I could use a different server. But why should I have to? The Internet is supposed to be global, and I won't cater to an ignorant email server like Hanmail. I just tell my students to open another email account with a non-xenophobic company. |
