After 5 months of low level, childish behaviour - I finally snapped yesterday and am now ignoring the stupid gets in my school - I would use 'teacher' but they are very immature and childish and rude. They couldn't teach a dog not to shit in the house.
For over 5 months, I turned the other cheek and was polite and brought in things and got rudness back which was disguised under a thin veneer of politeness.
Anyway - I'm still on cordial terms with my handler. How does ignoring the other stupid gets in the staffroom pan out?
Anyone got experiences to share - I would love to hear them on this day. |

I empathize with you, I never brought anything in. But these 'teachers' have awful manners. Yesterday, my co-teacher mentioned I don't respect the teachers, basically I don't lower my head to them and their rudeness.
Give them an awful grimace when you see them and say 'Hi' like a fool. It's amusing. and respectful (not). |

This may be a blessing in disguise. They sound like an unfriendly bunch so having them welcome you into the fold will only lead to greater demands on your time. Now, with their opinion of your worth solidified, continue to focus on doing your job as professionally as possible. Maintain your working relationship with your co-teacher and do the best you can for your students. And, if possible, try to build a relationship with your principal and VP. It's their opinion on things that counts. Good luck.  |

you people are all very dumb...
not the brightest bulbs in the shed, are you?
bogey666's e-z guide to getting along with everyone:
do as they do (within reason)
smile a lot
definitely BOW when you see them walking down the hall, etc.
occasionally bring in gifts/food/snack to share as they do.
Even if one of them hates you, the majority will not and you'll be a popular boy or girl in school.
if you sense distaste/dislike on part of one, ignore, bow, smile and walk away. |

Funny you should mention this topic about other teachers. I find some of my teachers (not English co-teachers) to be so "sensitive" if that's the right word.
Just yesterday, I walk by a teacher (50 year old lady) and she is browsing a wedding website. I mean, it's out there for all to see. There are 35 of us in the office, so we all see who is checking the gossip sites or watching a movie or whatever. I say something like, "So, are you getting married again?" Not really sarcastic but a gentle tease or joke. Holy...did she flip out. "Don't talk to me like that...and mind your own business." I said sorry and wondered what the heck crawled up her butt.
Suffice it to say, I am going to shut up from now on. |

You do realize that this thread is about GETs, right? GET = Guest English Teacher. Somehow I don't think bowing to them is going to make any difference to a non-Korean. You might want to read up on what a thread is about before calling people idiots and making yourself look like an even bigger idiot, even if the person you are insulting is fromtheuk. |

Ahhhhhhhhhh - apologies - 'get' is the same as 'git' but used usually in the north west of England.
Cheers for the replies - they cheered me up this day.

you couldn't be more INCORRECT.
bowing is a sign of common courtesy and respect.
Show it and you'll get it in return (or at least the odds work that way)
so, my name calling stands.
but you do what you want..... and then come back and whine here about your "mistreatment" or lack of respect.
and nomadish - that's certainly not the case in my case.
bundangbabo, I can't comment on specific cases and I'm not suggesting this is a cure-all for any problems that exist or may arise, but it most certainly cannot hurt. |
